Role Description
The primary job function is to assist house counsel with various pre-trial tasks, including:

Drafting responses, motions, and other legal documents

Conducting research projects and gathering information for claim cases

Corresponding with clients to investigate facts in preparation for trial
Qualifications
-
Education:
-
Minimum: Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; or a degree from a postsecondary institution with a minimum of 24 semester units in law-related courses; or a high school diploma with three years of law-related experience under an attorney.

Preferred: Degree in paralegal studies and/or Paralegal Certificate with 1+ insurance defense or civil litigation experience.

Experience:

Minimum: 0-2 years insurance defense paralegal experience and/or equivalent insurance defense litigation experience.

Preferred: 1-2+ years paralegal experience in civil litigation / insurance defense.

Skills and Abilities:
-
Minimum: General knowledge of legal principles, terminology, and procedures; written communication skills to draft legal documents; ability to work in a paperless environment; proficiency in word processing and case management software.

Preferred: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to carry out day-to-day activities effectively and complete work assignments promptly.
Requirements

Search for, assemble, and summarize pertinent information from various sources for preparing responses to discovery.

Correspond with clients, attorneys, and claims personnel regarding case status and gather additional information.

Produce a variety of written documents using advanced word processing software functions.

Prepare legal briefs, pleadings, appeals, and motions for attorney review.

Assist attorney in preparation of cases for trial, including assembling exhibits and trial documents.

Research and analyze law sources such as statutes and legal articles.

Assist insured in Small Claims cases by investigating facts and preparing trial briefs.

Complete 4 hours of continuing education or required hours of education in compliance with state rules.
