[Hiring] Counsel, Commercial and Strategic Initiatives @The L Suite

Role Description

Hometap is seeking a Counsel, Commercial & Strategic Initiatives to serve as a key legal advisor embedded across the business. This role is central to supporting Hometap’s mission of enabling homeowners to access the equity in their homes without taking on debt, through innovative home equity investment solutions.

• Partner closely with cross-functional teams, providing nuanced legal and regulatory guidance on matters including:
• Data privacy
• Artificial intelligence
• Dispute resolution
• Approximately 70% of your time will be spent advising on strategic initiatives and operational optimization.
• Work directly with departmental leadership to align legal strategy with commercial objectives and streamline legal operations.
• The remaining 30% of your responsibilities will focus on commercial and vendor agreements:
• Draft, review, and negotiate technology contracts, vendor arrangements, and strategic partnership agreements.
• Collaborate with finance, technology, and operations teams to ensure compliance and manage third-party risk.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active bar membership
• At least four years of relevant legal experience, including in-house exposure
• Experience in consumer financial services, fintech, mortgage lending, or other highly regulated, consumer-facing industries is strongly preferred
• Adept at structuring and negotiating commercial agreements
• Comfortable navigating new legal domains
• Skilled at translating complex requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business partners
