[Hiring] Associate Director, Pro-Vaccine Legal Alliance @American Families for Vaccines

Role Description

The Pro-Vaccine Legal Alliance Associate Director will serve as a core member of PVLA, supporting state-level vaccine policy through legal research, analysis, and strategic advising. This role is ideal for a new attorney (or recent policy graduate) who is self-directed, comfortable working in a fast-moving policy environment, and motivated by the intersection of law, public health, and advocacy.

This position sits at the center of a rapidly evolving legal landscape. The PVLA Associate Director will help shape how courts, legislatures, and the public understand the legal foundations of vaccination policy, supporting work that has direct implications for public health, equity, and access to care across the country.

The PVLA Associate Director will work closely with the Director to:

• Develop litigation memos
• Provide real-time legal guidance during legislative sessions
• Support amicus and litigation strategy
• Contribute to PVLA’s growing national legal infrastructure

This is a high-autonomy, mission-driven role with significant responsibility and opportunity to shape emerging legal strategy in public health.

Qualifications

• Experience with public health policy or law, constitutional law or policy, or administrative law or policy
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and respond quickly in time-sensitive contexts
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment

• J.D. from an accredited law school or an advanced health or policy degree (Masters in Health Policy, Policy, or similar) - Preferred
• Familiarity with state legislative processes or regulatory frameworks - Preferred
• Experience drafting briefs, memos, or policy guidance in a fast-paced environment - Preferred
• Interest in public health, science policy, or evidence-based advocacy - Preferred

Requirements

• Draft memos assessing constitutional claims, legal risk, and strategic opportunities
• Conduct legal research on vaccine-related litigation, administrative law, and public health authority
• Support case evaluation and contribute to PVLA’s litigation engagement decisions
• Provide legal review of proposed legislation, amendments, and regulatory actions
• Draft or review testimony, legal guidance, and policy memos for state partners
• Support rapid-response legal advising during active legislative sessions
• Assist in drafting and coordinating amicus briefs and other legal filings
• Support engagement with outside counsel and legal partners
• Monitor ongoing litigation and prepare internal updates and summaries
• Track legal developments across states and contribute to PVLA’s policy monitoring systems
• Support development of internal workflows, templates, and legal resources
• Work closely with AFV research, advocacy, communications, and state teams
• Contribute to internal briefings and strategic discussions
• Support development of public-facing legal explainers or summaries, as needed
