Role Description

The IT Systems Administrator plays a vital role in supporting the stability and performance of our zCloud (Mainframe) environment. The primary focus of this position is to assist with z/OS software installations, ensuring that the system software stays current and stable. Working under the guidance of senior team members, the incumbent will learn and apply best practices for monitoring system utilization, compiling reports, and identifying trends or potential issues.

This entry-level opportunity is ideal for candidates eager to develop their technical skills while actively contributing to the continuity and efficiency of our mainframe operations. The apprentice will receive mentoring and training, supporting both their professional growth and the organization’s mission to sustain critical business infrastructure. The candidate will be required to successfully complete the IBM z Skills GSAP MSA 1 during their first year of employment.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting Operations, application development teams, and production support teams (Db2, CICS, etc.)
• Ensuring non-disruptive installations of system and program products
• Adherent to organizational change management policies
• Participating in the evaluation and implementation of new products
• Planning and executing z/OS installation, configuration, and upgrades
• Installing and maintaining SAS and BMC IOA Control products (Control-M/D, Strobe, etc.)
• Assisting supporting Operations, app/dev, and production support teams
• Ensuring non-disruptive installations
• Participating in evaluating new products

Qualifications

• Experience as a z/OS mainframe systems programmer helpful
• Experience with z/OS operating systems
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Requirements

• Applicants must reside in the United States in one of the 50 States or the District of Columbia in order to be considered for this role.
