Role Description

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team, supporting operations in Chicago, IL, or Atlanta, GA. This role is ideal for a seasoned HR professional with a strong background in a complex, high-volume, unionized transportation or bus line environment. The HR Generalist will serve as a strategic partner and day-to-day resource for employees and management, administering a broad range of HR functions including:

• Employee Relations (ER) – Serves as the primary point of contact and driver for employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, manager enablement and coaching, etc.
• Compliance – Ensures organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Compensation Management – Support the administration of the company’s compensation programs, including job evaluations, salary benchmarking, job descriptions and classifications, annual merit review process, union pay scales, etc.
• Performance Management – Administer end-to-end performance management cycles, including goal-setting, mid-year check-ins and annual evaluations, progressive disciplinary processes, etc.
• Leave Administration – Manage and serve as point of contact for all employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term and long-term disability, personal leave, etc.
• Unemployment Compensation – Manage unemployment insurance claims and timely state agency responses.
• People Operations – Maintain accuracy and integrity of employee data in the HRIS, including employment changes, promotions, status changes, etc.
• Onboarding – Manage pre-employment activities and full onboarding experience, including background checks, I9 verifications, new hire orientations, etc.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with demonstrated proficiency across the functional areas listed above.
• Direct experience working within a unionized workforce; strong working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and labor law.
• Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrable experience identifying opportunities for improving HR processes, systems, and overall employee experience.
• Prior experience in intercity bus transportation, passenger rail, transit authority, or comparable high-volume, multi-location transportation operations.
• Experience supporting DOT-regulated employees and familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements.

Requirements

• Preferred Experience: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
• Experience supporting multiple sites or geographically dispersed employee populations.
