[Hiring] Payroll Specialist @Availity

Role Description

This role involves ensuring payroll is processed with speed and accuracy. The Payroll Specialist serves as a liaison to employees and with third-party payroll vendors to ensure payroll processing accurately reflects company-specific pay policies.

• Audits employee pay records and reconciles totals by department, location, country, etc.
• Coordinates third-party payroll system implementations and upgrades.
• Interprets pay policies (e.g., vacation, LOA, disability, workers compensation, union contracts, government regulations, withholding exemptions, etc.) and ensures appropriate amounts/deductions are calculated and applied correctly.
• Verifies compliance with federal and state payroll requirements; stays current with changes in the law.
• May assist with audits of internal records, workers compensation, tax filings, and related documentation.
• Documents payroll processes and procedures; may train payroll department staff.
• May back up those who perform specialized tasks or activities such as stock option exercises, SEC document filing, or sales commission calculation reviews.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or the equivalent experience of at least 5 years HR and/or payroll experience
• 5+ years of progressive HRIS and payroll experience
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills required and proficiency with Microsoft Word
• Experience with Workday is a plus
• Experience with travel and expense reimbursement process and supporting systems a plus
• Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) designation is preferred, although not required

Requirements

• Ability to accurately and timely process bi-weekly, multi-state payroll including both exempt and non-exempt employees.
• Subject matter expert for payroll components of the HRIS system and expense reimbursement application.
• Prepare various journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger support for payroll and expense reimbursement related items.
• Responsible for weekly expense review and reimbursement through the expense reporting system.
• Maintain and update documents for payroll and expense reimbursement process and procedures.
• Service and assist employees with payroll and expense reimbursement related policies, procedures and questions.
• Keep abreast of both state and federal regulations concerning payroll and other employee-related areas.
• Continually seek process automation and improvement.
• Assist and collaborate with other departments as needed.
