[Hiring] Manager, Financial Reporting @Deep Fission, Inc

Role Description

Deep Fission is seeking a Financial Reporting Manager to manage the day-to-day execution of the Company's external financial reporting with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and serve as a key technical accounting resource within the Finance organization. Reporting to the Controller, this individual contributor role carries significant responsibility for SEC filings, technical accounting research, equity administration, and internal controls, and works closely with the Controller on significant accounting matters, disclosures, and external reporting decisions. This role suits a technically strong candidate who has direct public-company reporting experience, works well through complex accounting questions, and is comfortable operating in a growing environment where processes continue to evolve.

Accountabilities and Essential Functions

• SEC and External Reporting:
  • Prepare quarterly and annual SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K, and support other SEC filings as needed, including proxy statements, registration statements, and Forms 8-K involving financial information.
  • Coordinate and review XBRL and iXBRL tagging and other aspects of the external filing process.
• Technical Accounting Research:
  • Research and document accounting positions on complex or non-routine transactions, and prepare clear technical accounting memoranda that support well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Monitor new and emerging FASB and SEC guidance, evaluate its applicability to Deep Fission, and lead or support implementation as needed.
  • Serve as the day-to-day resource for technical accounting matters across the Finance organization.
• Equity Administration and Reporting:
  • Help implement and maintain Morgan Stanley Shareworks as the Company's equity administration platform, and administer equity activity, including grants, RSU vesting and settlement events, stock option exercises, and other equity transactions.
  • Partner with Legal, People Operations, Payroll, and the Company's equity service providers to support accurate and timely processing and reporting.
• Stock-Based Compensation:
  • Prepare and maintain accurate supporting calculations, reconciliations, and disclosures related to stock-based compensation and other equity transactions.
• Internal Controls & SOX:
  • Help design, document, and execute the Company's internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) program, and manage the day-to-day operation of key controls.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and other departments to support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) readiness.
• Audit:
  • Serve as a key day-to-day contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
  • Manage prepared-by-client lists, supporting schedules, and technical inquiries.
• Close Support:
  • Support month-end close as needed, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and other supporting schedules.
• Policies and Procedures:
  • Draft and maintain accounting policies, technical documentation, and reporting procedures, and identify and implement practical process improvements as the Company grows.
• Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Controller and the broader Finance organization on other accounting matters, special projects, and business needs as they arise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
• 6+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing Forms 10-K and 10-Q and related SEC financial statement disclosures.
• Demonstrated experience with technical accounting research and preparation of clear accounting memoranda.
• Experience with stock-based compensation accounting under ASC 718 and equity-related accounting.
• Experience supporting or operating within an internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) environment.
• Experience working directly with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.

Requirements

• Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
• Ability to interpret authoritative accounting guidance and translate complex accounting matters into clear technical conclusions, accounting memoranda, and disclosures.
• Strong written communication skills, particularly for technical accounting documentation and external reporting.
• High degree of attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to independently manage SEC reporting timelines, multiple priorities, and cross-functional dependencies as the Company scales.
