[Hiring] Director of Revenue Analytics @Surgery Partners

5d ago - Surgery Partners is hiring a remote Director of Revenue Analytics. 💸 Salary: unspecified 📍Location: USA

Role Description

The Director of Revenue Cycle Analytics is a highly visible corporate-level leadership role responsible for turning revenue cycle data into actionable business insight for Surgery Partners’ ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), surgical hospitals, and corporate revenue cycle teams. The Director establishes and advances the revenue cycle analytics strategy, ensures consistent and accurate measurement of key performance indicators (KPIs), and partners with operational and executive leaders to identify performance opportunities, understand root causes, and support measurable improvement.

This role serves as the bridge between revenue cycle business needs and analytics solutions. The Director must understand how core revenue cycle measures are calculated, recognize the operational drivers behind performance, translate business questions into clear reporting and dashboard requirements, and communicate findings in a way that enables leaders to take action. The Director leads a small team of revenue cycle analysts and may coordinate contractors, technology partners, and analytics vendors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Revenue Cycle Analytics Strategy & KPI Governance
    • Lead the revenue cycle analytics function supporting ASC, hospital, market, division, and corporate leadership.
    • Establish and maintain standardized definitions, calculation methodologies, data sources, and reporting logic for core revenue cycle measures and KPIs, including AR Days/DSO, DNFB/unbilled, aging, denials, cash collections, net patient revenue, point-of-service collections, bad debt, payment variance, productivity, and other operational measures.
    • Understand the business and operational drivers that influence KPI performance and provide initial root-cause assessment when results do not meet established benchmarks or targets.
    • Develop an analytics roadmap that prioritizes high-value reporting, performance management, cash acceleration, operational transparency, and leadership decision support.
    • Promote data governance, metric consistency, data quality, reconciliation, and a single-source-of-truth approach across revenue cycle reporting.
  • Business Partnership, Reporting & Decision Support
    • Partner with ASC, hospital, market, division, finance, operations, and revenue cycle leaders to understand business questions, performance concerns, and decision-support needs.
    • Translate business insight needs into clear report, dashboard, data model, visualization, and analytical requirements.
    • Develop or oversee executive-ready dashboards and recurring performance reporting that highlight trends, variances, benchmarks, leading indicators, risks, and opportunities requiring action.
    • Perform and guide root-cause, trend, segmentation, and opportunity analyses to identify where revenue cycle performance is breaking down and where intervention is likely to have the greatest financial or operational impact.
    • Communicate complex analytical findings in concise business language, tailoring the message for executives, operators, and technical audiences.
    • Facilitate KPI reviews that move teams from reporting what happened to understanding why it happened and what action should be taken.
  • Team Leadership, Technology & Analytics Enablement
    • Lead, coach, and develop a small team of revenue cycle analysts; establish priorities, quality standards, work plans, and accountability for deliverables.
    • Direct and coordinate work performed by contractors, consultants, technology partners, and analytics vendors as needed.
    • Provide functional leadership for revenue cycle analytics platforms and tools; experience with VisiQuate, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or comparable healthcare analytics/business intelligence platforms is highly preferred.
    • Partner with data, IT, finance, and vendor teams to validate source data, troubleshoot reporting issues, improve data availability, and support scalable analytics solutions.
    • Encourage automation and self-service analytics where appropriate while maintaining controls over metric definitions, data quality, and executive reporting.
    • Stay current on healthcare revenue cycle trends, reimbursement changes, analytics capabilities, and emerging technologies, including responsible uses of advanced analytics and AI.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, finance, business, analytics, information systems, data science, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle, healthcare analytics, business intelligence, finance, or a closely related field, including experience using data to improve operational or financial performance.
    • 3+ years of leadership, team lead, or people-management experience preferred, including responsibility for analysts, contractors, consultants, or vendors.
    • Demonstrated experience supporting healthcare executives and operational leaders with KPI reporting, dashboards, performance analysis, and decision support.
    • Experience with both hospital and ambulatory surgery center revenue cycle environments strongly preferred.
    • Experience with healthcare revenue cycle systems, data warehouses, reporting platforms, and business intelligence tools.
  • License(s)/Certification(s): HFMA, CRCR, CHFP, CHDA, Lean/Six Sigma, Power BI, Tableau, or related healthcare/analytics certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Strong working knowledge of the end-to-end healthcare revenue cycle, including patient access, eligibility/authorization, financial clearance, coding, charge capture, billing, claims, denials, payment posting, collections, and bad debt.
    • Strong understanding of revenue cycle measures and KPIs, how they are calculated, appropriate benchmarks, and the common operational root causes of unfavorable performance.
    • Ability to connect metrics across the revenue cycle and distinguish symptoms from underlying process, payer, people, technology, workflow, or data-quality causes.
    • Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical requirements and actionable reporting solutions.
    • Strong data literacy, including the ability to validate results, reconcile data, identify anomalies, understand data lineage, and challenge conclusions that are not supported by the data.
    • Proficiency with VisiQuate, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or similar analytics/BI platforms highly preferred; advanced Excel skills expected. Working knowledge of SQL, data models, or querying concepts preferred.
    • Executive-level communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex analyses into clear insights, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
    • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with ASC and hospital leadership, finance, operations, IT/data teams, and third-party partners.
    • Strong prioritization and portfolio-management skills; able to balance recurring reporting, ad hoc analysis, strategic projects, and urgent executive requests.
    • Commitment to data accuracy, confidentiality, governance, documentation, and reproducible analytical methods.
    • Curiosity and intellectual rigor; asks effective follow-up questions to understand the business problem before building the analytical solution.
    • Ability to develop analysts through coaching, quality review, business-context education, and clear performance expectations.
    • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed organization and influence outcomes without direct authority.
    • Travel as required to support business needs.
