Role Description

Perform financial analysis and prepare underwriting documents to support complex multimillion-dollar credit requests for Utilities, Power and Alternative Energy clients.

  • Provide leadership for the deal team in analysis, approval, execution, and documentation.
  • Lead discussions with clients.
  • Act as a credit execution product specialist and recommend approval for credit proposals.
  • Responsible for matters relating to financing and/or financial modeling.
  • Conduct business within the moderate risk profile of the bank.
  • Possess a propensity to close deals through leadership and developing creative solutions.
  • Build a strong reputation for honesty, critical thinking, and diligence.
  • Professional with an entrepreneurial spirit, open to new transactions and initiatives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as the point person when underwriting credit transactions for the assigned portfolio and new clients.
  • Recommend capital structure and accumulate all data necessary for focused analysis.
  • Manage approvals for amendments and waivers to credit facilities.
  • Monitor the financial performance of portfolio companies.
  • Review financial statements, projection models, project cash flow models, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare thorough credit underwriting identifying industry concerns, market share trends, and financial trends.
  • Ensure underwriting and structuring decisions reflect commitment to strong asset quality.
  • Oversee annual and periodic review processes conducted by outside consultants for portfolio companies.
  • Recommend prudent use of capital and maintain profitability hurdles for the portfolio.
  • Stay on top of trends affecting assigned industry vertical.
  • Obtain and negotiate all necessary documentation including credit agreements, notes, pledges, and collateral.
  • Actively participate in client calling initiatives with Relationship Managers and Product Partners.
  • Conduct periodic independent site visits to assess management and business conditions.
  • Act as a value-added member of deal teams with loan syndication, origination, and distribution.
  • Support business development activities for cross-sell opportunities with the Relationship Management Team.
  • Mentor junior professionals.
  • Proactively assist Relationship Manager in development of marketing presentations and pitch books.
  • Identify potential problem accounts and work to improve the bank's position in undesirable situations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years of large corporate commercial banking experience in a lending and/or relationship management and credit team environment.
  • Experience in Utility/Power/Alternative Energy/Project Finance transactions is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of efficiently identifying, executing, and coordinating comprehensive solutions for lending products.
  • Competence in financial modeling.
  • Experience negotiating complex legal documents and working well with outside counsel.
  • Strong accounting knowledge.
  • Strong data gathering skills demonstrated through research and analysis in support of due diligence.
  • Solid understanding of basic financial metrics including key industry-specific ratios.
  • Appreciation of investment banking and knowledge of capital markets products.
  • Ability to learn internal data systems and technology including Credit Writeup Approval (CWA) System, Return on Equity (ROE) Model.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills with a convincing presence.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.

Requirements

  • Eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $170,000 to $190,000 annually.
  • Compensation includes eligibility for short-term and deferred incentive compensation subject to performance.
  • Role may be Mobile or Home-based, allowing for flexible work environments.
