Role Description
The Strategic Finance Manager supports Business Development, Proposals, Contracts and Global Clinical Development teams in providing sponsors with innovative and Strategic commercial offerings with the end goal of securing strategic partner relationships.
- Support the development of commercial structures, including discounting, payment schedules, and other innovative pricing strategies.
- Ensure the fidelity of information used in negotiating and securing contractual and financial terms with clients.
- Mitigate risks of any deal structures to protect the company’s financial interests.
- Provide integrated strategic pricing support across business units for a diverse customer base.
- Create & negotiate creative client-focused deal structures from point of sale through Master Service Agreement.
- Create, manage, and enforce preferred payment terms at the project/portfolio/partnership level.
- Act as a conduit for Finance to drive Change Order process to identify out of scope activities and increase recoverable revenue.
- Advise, consult, and liaise with Finance on forecasting and recognition of actuals (Revenue & Cost).
- Engage in client-facing negotiations with intermittent travel to Sponsor locations for meetings.
- Maximize marginal contribution and gross profit on each RFP/contract.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business/science or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years working in a related role (CRO/Pharmaceutical, Proposals, Contracts, or Finance environment).
- Commercial experience, ideally in proposals, contracts, and finance.
- Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following key areas: Budget/Pricing Development, Corporate Finance, Contract Management/Negotiation.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment, handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical and CRO industry.
- Knowledge of the proposal development process, budgeting, contracting, invoicing, and overall business organization.
- Strong attention to detail while maintaining a high level of strategic understanding.
- General understanding of financial tools such as rate cards, cash flow, unit and milestone-based payment schedules, inflation, foreign exchange fluctuation, fixed price contracts, functional outsourcing, and profit margins.
- Proficiency in all MS-Office applications with advanced MS Excel skillset (manipulating complex files, designing/auditing algorithms, macros, etc.).
