Role Description

The Sr. Transport Planning Engineer will fulfill a non-supervisory role within the CenturyLink Core National Network Transport Planning organization.

• Participate in and support the development of detailed network growth and evolution plans for the National Core Transport Network.
• Work on all elements of the core backbone network and subtending metropolitan networks in major cities.
• Produce a planning package directed to a field/design engineering team for implementation.
• Utilize technical skills in areas including:
  • Interdisciplinary network transport
  • SONET
  • Wave division multiplexing
  • Central office common systems (power, common terminations, office infrastructure, alarms)
  • Outside plant and general telecommunications engineering principles
  • Federal, State, and Local regulations governing Telecommunication Equipment placement
• Knowledge of network transport planning processes and data analysis principles, including capacity management.
• Manage and create all capital and expense budget approvals associated with assigned projects.
• Have working experience with mechanized systems designed to support transport planning and engineering processes, including:
  • Trunk Inventory Record Keeping System (TIRKS)
  • CNDC ASPEN Portal
  • LCAM
  • Metasolv
  • Fireworks
  • CORE or equivalent engineering systems
• Offer mentoring and training to peers, clients, and less-experienced employees.
• Exhibit a high level of professionalism and work ethic.
• Handle generally short-term projects (1-6 months) and may involve some project management skills and leadership.

• Patience in aiding less-experienced individuals.
• Practical negotiation skills.
• 5+ years experience.
