Role Description

The Lead Controls Field Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting for the full range of hardware and software products in the Controls Services Business portfolio. The role includes:

• Actively managing controls and instrumentation activities on-site during installation, commissioning, and maintenance of upgrade projects or new installations.
• Providing customers with technical direction and support on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) packaged products.
• Understanding PLC ladder logic and navigating through ladder rungs while troubleshooting.
• Tracing through software documentation and implementing control constant modifications.
• Reading and modifying software sequencing.
• Setting up and modifying hardware/software associated with Gas and Steam Turbine systems.
• Troubleshooting existing Control Solutions hardware and software installations on-site.
• Preparing field services jobs and coordinating with project/service managers.
• Providing training to customer employees as needed.
• Supervising cable laying, finding insulation resistance (Megger), and connection.
• Maintaining accurate timesheets and acquiring customer's signature on timesheets before leaving the job site.
• Preparing Field Service Reports within a week of job completion.
• Understanding T&C (Terms and Conditions) commitments.
• Providing timely and accurate internal and external reports.
• Ensuring contractual obligations are met and attending technical meetings with customers.
• Ensuring all in-field activities are carried out safely, complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures.
• Providing expert consultation on complex projects.
• Timely and accurately inputting hours, expenses, and timesheets in internal systems.
• Pre-outage and installation planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures.
• Availability to frequently travel (i.e., more than 75%), work offshore, and in restricted countries.
• Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required by field assignments.
• Driving customer satisfaction through commitment to quality.
• Supporting business growth initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or relevant discipline from an accredited university or related field.
• Advanced years of experience with GE Controls systems (Mark V or Mark VI or Mark VIe).
• Strong knowledge of turbines, generators, control panels, PLCs, and field instrumentation.
• Hands-on experience with field tools and reading technical drawings (P&ID, wiring diagrams).
• Fluent in English and Arabic, valid driver’s license and passport.
• Willingness to travel frequently (75%) and work offshore or overtime as required.

• Know-how of EX2100e will be considered an added advantage.
• Knowledge and skill to actively support an outage and be aware of where to seek answers to questions as they arise.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel.
• Ability to work under pressure; take ownership of onsite activities.
• Willingness to travel, in-country and worldwide, and to work overtime.
• Experience with successful installations and outages.
• Familiarity with instruments and controls and PLCs for controls training.
• Familiarity with computer network systems & switches.
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
