[Hiring] Head of Engineering @Emergence Software

Role Description

You are the founding leader of Emergence’s R&D Center of Excellence. You will build and lead a team of top-tier engineers, based in Egypt, who are deployed into our portfolio companies to raise the level of engineering wherever they land.

• Build the organization and the engineering system behind it: processes, infrastructure, and cross-cutting capabilities.
• Lead the Center of Excellence, sourcing and vetting engineering talent across the portfolio.
• Organize engineers by vertical (healthcare, automotive, infrastructure) and manage deployment.
• Build cross-cutting capabilities for the portfolio, including AI agents, data analytics, and automation.
• Chair biweekly forums with technical leaders to drive staffing and calibration decisions.
• Lead the central Emergence engineering team, focusing on architecture direction and internal tooling.
• Work directly with CEOs, CTOs, and operating partners to understand engineering needs.

Qualifications

• A deep technical background with experience in designing, building, and operating production systems.
• A track record of scaling teams, systems, and architecture.
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams across different products or companies.
• A demonstrated high bar for talent and the ability to make tough hiring decisions.
• Fluency in modern engineering practices and a real point of view on AI.
• Breadth of experience across multiple languages, stacks, and cloud environments.
• Clear and confident English communication skills.
• Based in Egypt, working an afternoon-to-evening Cairo schedule with heavy overlap into the US workday.

• Frontend and mobile: React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, Flutter, React Native, native iOS and Android.
• Data and AI: Postgres, MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, data pipelines, LLM integrations.
• Cloud and infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD.
• Domains: healthcare software, automotive platforms, infrastructure software, B2B SaaS.
