Role Description

What you'll own:

• One or more of the teams inside Boarding & Maintenance — the part of MX™ Connect that gets partners and merchants onto the platform and keeps them running.
• The area spans:
  • Partner boarding and the hierarchies underneath it
  • Merchant and submerchant boarding
  • Integrations into our own products and out to the processors
  • Partner and merchant agreements
  • Third-party vendors in that path
• Operations hub, which includes:
  • Merchant maintenance including reserve management
  • Case management for boarding and post-boarding work

What you'll be building:

• Boarding that self-cures — failures prevented or automatically remediated.
• Automated movement for partner hierarchy changes and merchants moving between portfolios.
• Automation of bank account changes and file builds to processors.
• A case workflow with a real dashboard, rush handling for urgent matters, and generated labels, MIDs, and assignments.
• Unified, progressive boarding for merchants, submerchants, and partners.
• Migration off legacy systems.

The role:

• Manage one to several teams as a full-time craft; the team's performance is your contribution.
• Own delivery, people, and standards.
• Pick up the keyboard when necessary, but not as your primary contribution.

Responsibilities:

• Craft: Hiring, feedback, and performance management operate as a system.
• Impact: Deliver predictably and sustainably; commitments hold.
• Ownership: Own the team's operational health; ensure humane on-call practices.
• Influence: Engineers grow into and beyond their levels.
• Judgment: Know when to protect the team and when to push it.

What Success Looks Like:

• Commitments hold quarter after quarter.
• Hires raise the bar.
• Underperformance cases handled early and fairly.
• Engineers developed to operate at a higher level.
• No part of the team's operation depends on a single head.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineers full time — hiring, performance, and delivery accountability.
• Sufficient technical depth to hold the bar in design reviews, incidents, and roadmap debates.
• Typically ~7+ years of experience including people leadership.
• Strong technical background in Node.js/TypeScript systems.
• Comfort with observability tooling (Datadog or similar).
• Experience running hiring processes for backend engineers.
• Experience partnering effectively with senior technical leaders (Staff+ engineers).

Requirements

• Prior individual-contributor experience as a Senior or Staff Node.js engineer (Nice to Have).
• Experience in FinTech, payments, banking, or other transaction-heavy systems (Preferred).
• Familiarity with PCI DSS or other regulated, sensitive financial data (Preferred).
