[Hiring] Sessional Lecturer and Course Coordinator @University of Toronto

Role Description

The Department of Physiology, University of Toronto (St. George campus) is recruiting a Sessional Lecturer and Course Coordinator to teach and coordinate PSL1040H (Systems Biology in Physiology) during the Winter 2027 term. The course will run from January to April 2027, inclusive of the term tests and examinations.

• Course Code and Title: PSL1040H – Systems Biology in Physiology
• Course Description:
  • Systems biology links general medical scientific research approaches with ‘large scale’ analyses.
  • The goal is to connect complex biological networks with biochemical and physiological outcomes.
  • Includes 'omic' disciplines such as genomics, epigenetics, transcriptomics, network signaling, metabolomics, interactomics, lipidomics, and proteomics.
  • Course begins with general lecture overviews, followed by student-driven seminar-based discussions.
  • Covers major systems biology literature and technical approaches.
  • Written essay allows students to explore one area in greater detail.

• Sessional Dates of Appointment: January to April 2027
• Salary: $10,497.73 (includes teaching pay of $8,997.73 and course coordination of $1,500.00, inclusive of vacation pay).

Qualifications

• PhD in physiology or related discipline.
• Classroom lecturing experience in systems physiology/biology.

Requirements

• Class schedule: Mondays 2-4 p.m. (online delivery).

Description of Duties

• Supervising guest faculty who lead various lecture sessions.
• Organizing and administering research paper assignments.
• Providing several lectures during the session.
• Evaluating students during group participation.
• Processing assignments and grading.
• Dealing with student administration inquiries and medical notes.
