Role Description
The Academic Coach applies the approved coaching model to coach in key skill areas that support student’s goal attainment in academics, career, and life. Student learning and development is the Academic Coach’s primary responsibility and focus. This position focuses on one or more core academic areas such as:

Social and emotional skills that build resiliency in the student
Academic Coaches are responsive to learner needs and vary the type, length, method, and intensity of support to best match the learner’s strengths and goals. Using technology, Academic Coaches may interact with students in both group and one-on-one settings. They collaborate with instructional and program faculty serving the students in their courses to ensure continuity and quality of support.
Qualifications

In-depth knowledge and understanding of the approved coaching model.

Strong understanding, adherence, and promotion of the tenets of competency-based education.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information clearly, concisely, and accurately; friendly, persuasive speaking and writing style.

Possess a high level of self-awareness.

Well organized - conscientious and thorough with detail.

Demonstrated ability to customize coaching and tutoring sessions for learners with a variety of needs and educational backgrounds.

Ability to cultivate trust and safety and show genuine concern for the student’s welfare and future.

Ability to self-manage own emotions and not be overpowered by student's emotions.

Ability to be centered and present during coaching discussions.

Demonstrated technological competency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (or similar) applications, virtual instructional platforms, and student management systems.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, English, Educational Studies, or a related field.

At least two years of related experience in teaching, tutoring, academic coaching, or similar work supporting academic learning, study skills, and student success.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.

Ability to work 20 hours per week during evenings and weekends, including weekday shifts after 5:00 PM local time, minimum four-hour shifts, and at least one four-hour weekend shift.

The experience requirement may be waived for candidates or incumbents with an advanced degree.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.

Coaching certification.
-
Mathematics background through education, teaching, tutoring, academic coaching, or other relevant experience.

Experience working in a college-level academic coaching center.
-
Experience supporting traditional and non-traditional college students, including students with disabilities.

Experience with distance education and supporting students in online learning environments.

Position & Application Details
