Role Description

The Director of Curriculum at Augustana University is responsible for overseeing the clinical education component of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The role includes planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, and monitoring activities related to clinical education.

• Developing, monitoring, and refining the clinical education component of the curriculum.
• Facilitating quality learning experiences for students during clinical education.
• Evaluating students' performance in cooperation with other faculty.
• Educating students, clinical, and academic faculty about clinical education.
• Selecting clinical learning environments that demonstrate sound patient/client management.
• Maximizing available resources for the clinical education program.
• Providing documented records and assessment of the clinical education component.
• Actively engaging core faculty in clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment.

The DCE serves as a liaison between the physical therapy program and clinical education sites, establishing standards and facilitating communication.

Qualifications

• Earned terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities, OR Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) with preferred ABPTS specialization.
• Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice.
• Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in Colorado or the state of residence.
• Active in clinical practice, especially as applicable to clinical education.
• Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
• Experience consistent with Augustana University System for Faculty Rank.

Requirements

• Communicate between Augustana University, the DPT Program, and affiliated clinical education sites.
• Provide ongoing communication with clinical educators at each clinical education site.
• Evaluate each clinical education site through student feedback and on-site visits.
• Coordinate and teach clinical education courses and related content.
• Monitor the changing health care delivery system and advise faculty accordingly.
• Develop criteria and procedures for clinical site selection and assessment.
• Collaborate with clinical faculty for development opportunities.
