Role Description
Hawai`i Pacific University, Graduate College of Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time core faculty position at the rank of assistant professor for its hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Primary teaching responsibilities include Human Physiology, Pharmacology, and Capstone.

Additional teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on program needs and the faculty memberβs areas of expertise.

This position is available for an immediate start, with the anticipated start date determined in coordination with the successful candidate.

This accelerated two-year DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities.

DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Honolulu for designated time periods each academic term.

Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format.

The successful candidate will understand higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership and instructions in physical therapy education.

Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy is required.

The candidate should be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Hawaii or the state of residence.

We seek a collegial individual who either has a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., Ed.D, D.Sc., etc.) or a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT), with specialist certification.

In addition to instructional, service, and scholarly activity, they will participate in commencement, convocations, and other university-wide events, and department and collegiate meetings in the week before the start of academic terms.

Faculty presence and engagement is expected during academic terms that faculty have teaching responsibilities.

Priority reviews and consideration will be given to applications received on or before October 30, 2026.
Qualifications

Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) or terminal doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, etc) from an accredited university.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education.

Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting physical therapy education, students, and the profession of physical therapy.

Licensed or eligible for licensure in Hawaii or the state of residence.

Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
Requirements

Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) in physical therapy or related field.

Experience as core faculty in a DPT program.

Specialist Certification.

Demonstrated evidence of online teaching effectiveness.

Benefits

This is a remote, full-time, 12-month (36-credit) exempt faculty position with up to 30 credits of teaching over the calendar year.

Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.

Regular travel to the state of Hawaii is required.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions

Teaching (70%)
-
Develop a syllabus of course activities that meet the requirements of the course description or program chair.
-
Plan and deliver individual classes via distance education or face-to-face lab instruction.
-
Maintain accurate and complete records on student participation and performance.
-
Submit grades and any other required documentation in a timely manner.
-
Post and maintain regular office hours at times reasonably convenient to students.

Serve as an advisor to students to assist them in understanding the curriculum.
-
Evaluate the teaching of colleagues through the process of peer review as requested.

Scholarship and Professional Development (15%)

Keep abreast of new knowledge in the field to ensure courses and teaching methods are current.

Engage in distinctive course and academic program development efforts.

Examples of scholarly activities include publication of research findings, obtaining research grants, and participation in professional organizations.

University Service (10%)
-
Engage in service to department, school or college, and the university.

Attend orientation programs and Faculty Assembly meetings.

Participate in academic governance of the department.

Performs other related duties as appropriate (5%)

May engage in clinical practice as a physical therapist.

Engage in community service by providing volunteer assistance.
