Role Description

The department of Humanities and Social Sciences has periodic openings for part-time, adjunct faculty to teach on site or online in the Fine Arts: Music program. The primary responsibility will be teaching basic to advanced piano classes, individual applied music lessons in piano or other instruments, and upper-level music courses as needed in theory, music tech, composition, and music history. There may be opportunities for piano accompaniment as well.

Adjunct instructors in Fine Arts: Music will primarily teach piano-based classes and lessons. There may be opportunities to teach upper-level music courses and to accompany ensembles. Courses may be offered face-to-face or online, though face-to-face is preferred. The principal responsibility of the position is teaching undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses on-campus or online as assigned.
  • Accompany ensembles and other musical applications, depending on need.
  • Work with the program director to ensure consistent and appropriate student learning.
  • Utilize the University’s learning management system (Canvas) to assess student projects and record grades in a timely manner.
  • Regularly check your email account. Respond to emails/messages in a timely manner.
  • Complete all required reports, such as early grade alerts, midterm grades, and final grades.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music with a specialty in piano, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated piano proficiency.
  • Proven record of quality instruction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching college-level courses.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.
