Role Description

In this role, you will be at the forefront of managing and responding to major incidents across our clients' infrastructure, ensuring system integrity and client satisfaction. You’ll handle critical alerts, deliver technical support, and resolve complex issues to maintain the reliable performance of client environments. This role calls for autonomous problem-solving, effective collaboration with clients and internal teams, and a proactive approach to incident management to meet our high service standards.

  • Manage and maintain IT systems, including servers, workstations, and network devices.
  • Ensure system uptime and reliability by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues.
  • Administer and support company network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, switches, and VPNs.
  • Manage and rapidly action all incoming major incidents from monitoring tools, ensuring swift, effective resolution.
  • Independently handle alerts, phone calls, and backups, driving each to resolution within SLA.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and communication, ensuring a positive experience for all clients.
  • Identify recurring incidents, offering insights to internal stakeholders and assisting with root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Work seamlessly with the team, documenting clear notes, instructions, and information to ensure smooth workflow transitions between rostered colleagues.
  • Provide 2nd level technical support on incidents and requests raised by customers through multiple channels, including email and phone.
  • Actively monitor and respond to alerts from our monitoring tools, diagnosing and resolving issues swiftly.
  • Manage and coordinate updates for major or critical incidents, keeping key stakeholders informed and ensuring resolution transparency.

Requirements

  • Windows Server Expertise: Experience in managing and maintaining Windows Server environments (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022), including installation, configuration, and system updates.
  • Active Directory & Group Policy: Proficient in managing Active Directory, Group Policies, and permissions.
  • Virtualization: Skilled in administering virtualized environments.
  • Security & Compliance: Knowledge of Windows security best practices, user access controls, patch management, and system hardening.
  • System Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Strong troubleshooting skills to monitor and resolve server and system performance issues.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Experience with backup solutions and ensuring disaster recovery processes are in place and tested.
  • Scripting & Automation: Familiarity with PowerShell or similar scripting tools to automate system administration tasks.
  • Networking: Understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and VPN technologies.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive system and process documentation.
  • Certifications: Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) or equivalent preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Experience in infrastructure or operations support, ideally within a managed services environment, managing incidents, alerts, and problem resolution.
  • Practical experience with Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools like SolarWinds N-Central, ConnectWise, and LionGard, enabling proactive monitoring and incident response.
  • Solid understanding of a range of technologies, including Fortinet Firewalls, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, Citrix, and various internet connection setups.
  • Strong analytical skills and a track record of identifying root causes, with the ability to solve issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, and vendors to ensure efficient problem resolution and knowledge sharing.
  • Previous experience in a NOC, datacenter, or network technician role is essential for understanding monitoring and infrastructure operations.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant IT industry certifications are highly valued (e.g., Fortinet, Microsoft, or AWS).
  • Ability to work autonomously yet collaboratively, maintaining detailed documentation and clear communication with colleagues.
  • Demonstrates initiative, attention to detail, and a team-oriented approach with a positive, solution-focused attitude.
  • Demonstrated experience in a SOC environment with a focus on proactive threat detection, response, and management.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring and managing security solutions such as Huntress, Azure Sentinel, Intune, Windows Defender, and M365.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and respond to potential security incidents, utilizing effective response measures and best practices.
  • Practical experience implementing and operationalizing security controls within client environments to bolster overall security posture.
  • Strong awareness of general infrastructure and network security principles, including familiarity with vulnerability assessments and security monitoring.
  • Exceptional communication skills to coordinate with internal teams and clients on security incidents and solutions, ensuring transparency and clarity.
  • Passionate about staying updated on cybersecurity trends and advancements, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrates initiative in threat hunting and proactive security, with strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to maintaining secure environments.
