Role Description

CACI is preparing for an exciting modernization effort with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This new program will be a transformational initiative that will reshape how the VA manages acquisition, contracting, and enterprise-wide data. As the VA moves toward a modern, secure, and integrated CMS environment, our team will play a pivotal role in delivering the technology, expertise, and innovative problem solving required to support the nation’s veterans.

We are currently hiring a DevOps Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join this dynamic team. The DevOps SME will design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and platform operations supporting a Federal enterprise acquisition system modernization. This role requires strong technical expertise in DevSecOps practices, cloud infrastructure management, and the ability to work collaboratively across delivery teams to ensure reliable, secure deployment and operations serving 26,000+ users transitioning to a unified Appian-based platform.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar tools to automate build, test, and deployment processes
• Develop and maintain infrastructure for Azure Government environments
• Configure and manage Azure cloud infrastructure including VMs, containers, storage, networking, and security controls aligned to FedRAMP High and VA TRM requirements
• Implement DevSecOps practices integrating automated security scanning, vulnerability assessment, and compliance validation into deployment pipelines
• Manage application environments (development, test, staging, production) ensuring configuration consistency and deployment repeatability
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security using tools such as Azure Monitor, Splunk, or similar platforms; respond to incidents and implement remediation
• Collaborate with Appian developers, DBAs, and security teams to optimize application deployment, performance tuning, and platform operations
• Automate operational tasks including backup/recovery, patching, scaling, and configuration management to reduce manual effort and improve reliability
• Maintain deployment documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures; support release planning and coordination activities
• Mentor junior engineers and promote automation best practices across delivery teams

Qualifications

• US citizen with ability to pass Tier 2 background investigation
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical field of study (3+ additional years of relevant IT experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
• 5 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or systems administration, with at least 2 years supporting cloud-based applications
• Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts and services (Azure, AWS, or similar)
• Proficiency with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar) for automation
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and deployment issues

Requirements

• Experience with Azure Government Cloud (MAG) or other FedRAMP-authorized cloud environments
• Knowledge of Appian platform infrastructure requirements and deployment patterns
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, OpenShift)
• Infrastructure as code expertise (Terraform, ARM templates, CloudFormation, Ansible)
• Successful track record of supporting Federal government system modernization programs
• Understanding of Federal security requirements (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, ATO processes)
• Experience with configuration management tools
• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (Azure Monitor, Splunk, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Git version control and branching strategies for infrastructure code
• Experience with database administration or performance tuning for enterprise applications
• Understanding of Federal acquisition or financial management systems
• Relevant certifications (Azure Administrator, Azure DevOps Engineer)

Pay Range

The proposed salary range for this position is: $82,100-$172,400. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
