Role Description
The Railroad Commission of Texas is looking for a DevOps Engineer β Level 2 who will serve as the primary owner and subject matter expert for Redwood RunMyJobs (RMJ) Scheduler. The engineer will manage, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise workload automation, job scheduling, batch processing, integrations, and related workflows. The role will work closely with enterprise architects, Informatica, MuleSoft, data engineering, reporting, infrastructure, and IT leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities

RunMyJobs Administration
-
Serve as the primary RMJ administrator and SME.

Create and manage job schedules, workflows, dependencies, and calendars.

Administer, configure, patch, and upgrade the Redwood RunMyJobs platform.

Monitor job execution, alerts, performance, and SLAs.
-
Troubleshoot failed jobs, system errors, delays, and performance issues.
-
Manage users, roles, security settings, and platform configurations.
-
Keep system configurations and security patches up to date.
-
Automation & Workflow Development
-
Design, develop, and optimize automated workflows and job chains.
-
Build and maintain batch schedules based on business and technical requirements.
-
Define execution times, priorities, dependencies, triggers, and scheduling logic.
-
Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation.
-
Monitor batch processing and resolve errors or delays.
-
Analyze and optimize batch-job performance.
-
Maintain technical documentation for workflows, processes, troubleshooting, and configurations.

Integration & Technical Support
-
Support RMJ integrations with enterprise applications and data sources.
-
Configure and manage RMJ agents and connectivity across environments.

Support file-transfer and API-based integrations.
-
Support event-driven processes and ETL/ELT workflows.
-
Assist with environment setup, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance.

Work with application, infrastructure, and data engineering teams.

Collaboration
-
Work with business and IT stakeholders to understand requirements.

Translate requirements into workload automation solutions.

Participate in requirements meetings, testing, and technical working sessions.

Collaborate with operations and project teams to ensure reliable batch processing.

Recommend workload automation best practices.

Contribute to continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
-
6+ years of on-call support for critical batch failures and incidents.
-
5+ years of hands-on Redwood RunMyJobs administration and troubleshooting.
-
5+ years of scripting with PowerShell, Bash, Korn/Bourne Shell, Python, or similar.

5+ years of job scheduling, dependencies, workflow orchestration, and automation.
-
5+ years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
-
3+ years of Linux and Windows administration.
-
3+ years of application installations, upgrades, and configuration management.
-
3+ years of designing and maintaining batch dependencies, triggers, calendars, and execution windows.

3+ years of troubleshooting CI/CD and migration-related incidents.
-
3+ years of API integrations and file-based ETL/ELT processes.
-
3+ years of experience with mainframe systems and JobTrac.
Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of experience working on data-focused projects, particularly legacy-system modernization/migration.

3+ years of familiarity with mainframe technologies including:

IMS

COBOL files

JCL

Mainframe batch processing

State holidays are excluded.

Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required for operational needs.

Renewals: Three additional one-year renewal options, subject to performance and funding.
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be a hands-on RunMyJobs/Redwood Scheduler engineer with substantial experience administering RMJ in production environments, combined with strong scripting, batch automation, cloud, Linux/Windows, API/file integrations, and mainframe/JobTrac experience.
