Role Description
You’ll be joining our Website, SEO & Conversion team — working closely with web product and engineering, SEO, conversion specialists, and the wider marketing team to deliver a world-class website experience. You’ll sit within our Growth Marketing function as the senior design authority — educating, influencing, and leading talented teammates who look to you for design and UX/UI leadership.
This is a fully remote role. We’re a remote-first company and have been since the beginning. You’ll be trusted to lead with autonomy, set your own pace, and deliver outcomes without needing to be in the same room as anyone else.
We are an AI-first company. AI is not an add-on here — it’s embedded in how we think, build, and operate across the business. In this role, that means using AI tools (including Claude, V0) as a genuine accelerant across strategy, research synthesis, design execution, and systems documentation. We’re looking for someone who already works this way and is excited to push it further with agentic workflows.
This is a true player-coach role – you’ll set the strategy, build the systems, and define what world-class looks like — then roll up your sleeves and design it. The scope is significant – design system, UX research framework, web design roadmap, design ops, and hands-on design execution, all yours to own and shape. There’s a real mark to be made here, and the business is invested in making it happen.
Qualifications
-
8–10 years of UX/UI design experience with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and strategic leadership, with measurable outcomes on high-traffic commercial websites, SaaS platforms, or B2B/B2C digital products
-
5+ years in a design lead, head of design, or equivalent role — with demonstrated accountability for design quality, strategy, and outcomes
-
Proven player-coach experience: you’ve led design strategy and vision while staying deeply hands-on, and you consider that a strength
-
Hands-on experience building or significantly evolving a design system, including design ops, accessibility standards, and internationalisation
-
Strong UX research capability — you’ve owned research frameworks, run usability tests and interviews, and know how to turn insight into strategic action
-
Deep CRO and experimentation experience — you’ve worked with testing programs end-to-end and can connect design decisions directly to commercial outcomes
-
Performance and accessibility expertise — Core Web Vitals, mobile-first principles, and WCAG standards are baseline expectations for you, not afterthoughts
-
An AI-first working style — you use AI tools e.g. Claude, V0 etc as a genuine part of how you work across strategy, research, design execution, and systems
-
Expert Figma proficiency and strong familiarity with analytics and behavioural tools (GA4, Hotjar, or similar)
-
Outstanding communication and influencing skills — you can present with confidence and advocate for design as a business-critical function to senior non-design stakeholders
-
Comfortable operating as the senior design voice in the room and energised by the opportunity to build something from a strong foundation rather than inherit someone else’s playbook
Requirements
-
Design Leadership & Strategy
-
Serve as the senior design authority for Employment Hero’s global web presence — owning the design strategy, the outcomes, and the quality bar across all web design decisions
-
Define a long-term web experience design vision that connects design excellence to commercial performance, brand positioning, and conversion outcomes
-
Set the benchmark in our industry and beyond
-
Own a prioritised web design roadmap aligned to business objectives, and influence the broader web product roadmap at a strategic level
-
Establish design principles, success metrics, and quality standards that all future web design work is measured against
-
Use AI tools to pressure-test strategy, explore frameworks, and accelerate decision-making before it reaches stakeholders
-
Hands-On Design Execution
-
Design and deliver world-class web experiences across Employment Hero’s global web presence — end-to-end from concept to production
-
Design across the full user journey – information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity UI, interaction and motion design, and design QA through to live
-
Apply a performance-aware, mobile-first design approach, understanding how design decisions affect Core Web Vitals, load speed, and cross-device experience
-
Design with accessibility at the centre, meeting WCAG standards and championing inclusive design across all web touchpoints
-
Design for CMS platforms with flexibility and scalability in mind, creating systems non-designers can confidently manage
-
Leverage AI to accelerate concept generation, design variation, and production output
-
UX Research & Insight
-
Own the UX research function, defining the frameworks, methodologies, and cadences that keep design decisions grounded in user evidence
-
Plan and conduct usability testing, user interviews, heuristic evaluations, and behavioural data analysis (analytics, heatmaps, session recordings)
-
Use AI to accelerate research synthesis — turning raw data into structured, actionable insights faster
-
Define and track the design metrics that measure web experience quality – task completion, engagement, scroll depth, bounce rates, and design’s contribution to conversion
-
Design System & Design Operations
-
Build and own the website design system — component libraries, design tokens, interaction patterns, motion guidelines, accessibility standards, and documentation
-
Ensure the design system accounts for internationalisation, designing components and layouts that scale across multiple markets, languages, and content lengths
-
Establish design ops processes – tooling, file structure, version control, handoff standards, and cross-functional workflows
-
Use AI to accelerate system documentation, identify inconsistencies, and maintain system quality at scale
-
Conversion Optimisation & Experimentation
-
Partner with the CRO team on design strategy across landing pages, forms, CTAs, and key acquisition flows
-
Collaborate on A/B and multivariate testing programs — clear hypotheses, rigorous rationale, and a focus on learning as much as winning
-
Use AI to generate test hypotheses and model the potential impact of design changes
-
Partner with analytics and growth specialists to turn test outcomes into iterative improvements
-
Stakeholder Education & Influence
-
Be the design authority for the business — educating the broader team on UX/UI best practices, design thinking, and the commercial value of experience-led design
-
Present strategy and recommendations with confidence to senior stakeholders, building trust in a design-led approach
-
Stay current with design trends, tools, and technology — particularly AI-assisted research, strategy, and design
-
Team Leadership & Capability Building
-
Lead with intent from day one — setting the culture, standards, and ways of working that will define this team as it grows
-
Manage and mentor other designers as required. Including freelancers, providing clear direction and maintaining a high bar for quality
-
Contribute to hiring future design team members, including potential direct reports, as the team scales
