[Hiring] UX/UI Designer @SAIC

Role Description

SAIC is seeking a motivated and energetic UX/UI Designer to conduct user research and usability testing to ensure all designs meet user requirements across the VA Medical Disability Exam (MDE) program. This essential program provides Veterans with timely, accurate, and thorough medical examinations, and plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our Nation's Veterans.

As a UX/UI Designer, you will collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, and other product team members as part of an agile software development team to ensure quality product and timely delivery in meeting stakeholder needs and IT Accessibility Standards.

• Optimize services and products and develop mockups for the design and development teams.
• Component-Driven Design: Develop structural wireframes, mockups, and task flows tailored for component-based front-end frameworks like Angular and/or React.
• Developer Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering teams to ensure wireframes align with framework constraints, maximizing component reusability and reducing development friction.
• Technical Handoffs: Deliver precise design handoffs, component specifications, and interactive prototypes that map clearly to front-end development structures.
• Develop and maintain design wireframes and specifications.
• Communicate screen designs, interaction models, end-to-end experiences, and the target audience to other members of the project team.
• Consider the human-computer interface element of a design.
• Compare the user experience of existing applications and work to design better alternatives.
• Keep current with industry trends and competitor products and communicate design prototypes and ideas to developers.
• Work with development teams to design and implement attractive designs while maintaining consistency.
• Develop task flows and wireframes based on user needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Must be able to create a design from scratch and critique/improve a design.
• Must have experience with Figma and Framer to create wireframes and prototypes.
• Framework Familiarity: Strong understanding of UI/UX design patterns for modern front-end frameworks.
• Technical Wireframing: Expert proficiency in high-utility wireframing and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD) with a focus on logical layout hierarchy.
• Front-End Literacy: Solid conceptual understanding of modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and responsive layouts like Flexbox/Grid) to guarantee design feasibility.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to present concepts, ideas, and insights to the project team and clients.
• Solid understanding of user experience design fundamentals, such as rules of typography and data visualization techniques.
• Must be self-motivated and take initiative to continually meet with team leads.

Requirements

• Previous development experience in HTML/CSS/Javascript.
• Experience supporting Federal government, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, FedRAMP).
• Clearance – Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on Background Investigation.
