The ideal candidate has a strong eye for UI design, understands game interfaces, and is comfortable getting into Unreal Engine and UMG to make their work playable and functional.

Note: While this role can be carried out remotely, candidates are required to be current Ontario or Quebec residents or willing to relocate to Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement game UI, menus, HUDs, widgets, and interactive interfaces.
  • Build and maintain UI directly in Unreal Engine using UMG.
  • Create UI layouts, states, navigation, interactions, and transitions.
  • Turn UI concepts and visual designs into functional in-game interfaces.
  • Work closely with UI programmers to integrate visual assets into the game.
  • Collaborate with game designers and programmers to define and implement UI requirements.
  • Prototype UI quickly in Unreal and iterate based on playtesting and feedback.
  • Maintain consistency across the game's different UI systems and screens.
  • Help define reusable UI patterns and components.
  • Ensure UI is responsive, readable, and intuitive during gameplay.
  • Support UI implementation from prototype through to final polish and live updates.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience as a UI Designer in the games industry.
  • Strong understanding of game UI design and visual hierarchy.
  • Hands-on experience creating and implementing UI in Unreal Engine.
  • Strong knowledge of UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics).
  • Comfortable working directly in the Unreal Editor.
  • Experience building menus, HUDs, widgets, and interactive UI flows.
  • Ability to work with UI art assets and integrate them into functional interfaces.
  • Understanding of basic UX principles, particularly around navigation, menus, and player flows.
  • Experience working on live games and iterating UI based on player needs and feedback.
  • Comfortable collaborating with programmers, designers, and artists.
  • Strong attention to detail and a good eye for polish.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining UI systems on a live game.

Bonus

  • Familiarity with Unreal Blueprints and basic scripting.
  • Experience prototyping UI/UX directly in-engine.
  • Understanding of accessibility and usability best practices.
  • Some knowledge of UI animation and motion design.
  • Experience collaborating closely with gameplay programmers and technical designers.

Benefits

  • 6.5 weeks paid vacation.
  • Eligible for Employee Stock Options Plan.
  • Flexible schedule and work location, with your choice of remote, hybrid, or on-site.
  • Healthcare & benefits plan, for you and your family.
  • 100% parental leave top-up for 16 weeks, for Canadian employees.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $90,000 - $130,000 per year. The range for this role represents candidates across a wide range of skills and experience for the position. Increased salaries may be achievable for those who have achieved mastery and deep industry knowledge over time. Your specific offer will rely on your unique experience and alignment to our team's needs for the position.

Transparency on use of AI and position vacancy

Our recruitment process does not use artificial intelligence to automatically screen, assess, or select applicants. All decisions on progressing, rejecting, and offering candidates are made by human reviewers. One AI–enabled tool that may be used during the interview process is that of interview recording, transcription, and summarizing. Again, this would not make decisions, but simply make reviewing the notes easier. We will always ask for the candidates approval before using such a tool. In compliance with Ontario regulations, the advertised posting is for a currently vacant position.
