[Hiring] Shopify UI/UX Engineer @Hire Overseas

2wks ago - Hire Overseas is hiring a remote Shopify UI/UX Engineer. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: Turkey

Role Description

We're looking for a Shopify UI/UX Engineer to take full ownership of the storefront for a fast-growing DTC nutrition brand co-founded by a high-profile media personality. This is not a scoped ticket role. You will be the single in-house owner of the entire storefront, replacing an agency and becoming the sole point of contact for everything from new page builds and interactive widgets to app configuration and bug fixes.

You will:

  • Write Liquid templates, build custom sections, create JavaScript-powered interactive tools, manage the app ecosystem, and make design decisions independently.
  • Keep the site fast, accessible, and on-brand.
  • Use Claude Code as the primary development tool for this role.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development is required, not optional.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional Shopify theme development including Liquid, Shopify APIs, and theme architecture.
  • Strong frontend fundamentals including semantic HTML, modern CSS, and responsive design.
  • JavaScript proficiency sufficient to build interactive widgets, handle DOM manipulation, and integrate third-party libraries.
  • Demonstrated design sensibility shown through a portfolio where you made real aesthetic decisions, not just implemented specs.
  • Experience with Shopify section and block architecture and the theme editor customization model.
  • Familiarity with the Shopify app ecosystem including configuring Klaviyo, review apps, and cart apps.
  • Fluency with Claude Code or comparable AI-assisted development tools as a natural part of your workflow.
  • Strong async written communication skills for a distributed team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.

Requirements

  • Storefront Development and Maintenance (40%): Own the full Shopify theme codebase including Liquid templates, CSS and SCSS, and vanilla JavaScript or lightweight frameworks.
  • Build and iterate on PDPs, collection pages, landing pages, the blog, and informational pages including FAQ, About, and Science.
  • Create custom theme sections and blocks so non-technical team members can manage content via the Shopify editor.
  • Implement responsive, mobile-first designs that render well across devices and browsers.
  • Manage product pages with multiple SKUs and variants, subscription and one-time purchase toggles, and dynamic bundles.
  • Interactive Widgets and Custom Functionality (25%): Build embedded mini-apps and interactive tools such as calculator widgets, quizzes, and product recommendation experiences that drive conversion.
  • Implement dynamic product bundles, quantity selectors, and cart upsell experiences.
  • Integrate third-party scripts and embeds including Klaviyo, Okendo, Instafeed, and TripleWhale cleanly without performance degradation.
  • App Ecosystem and Integrations (15%): Manage and configure the full Shopify app stack including Klaviyo, Okendo, Upcart, Aspire, TripleWhale, Avalara, Flow, Replo, VerifyPass, Instafeed, accessiBe, and others.
  • Evaluate new apps and recommend swaps when better alternatives exist β€” you are expected to have opinions here.
  • Wire up app-level functionality with the theme including cart drawer upsells, review widgets, loyalty integrations, and fulfillment rules.
  • Performance, SEO, and Accessibility (10%): Maintain Lighthouse performance scores and optimize images, lazy loading, critical CSS, and third-party script loading.
  • Implement structured data using JSON-LD, semantic HTML, meta tags, and technical SEO best practices.
  • Ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance is built natively into the storefront, not just patched with third-party tools.
  • Design Collaboration and Brand Execution (10%): Translate Figma mockups into production Liquid and HTML and CSS while filling in design gaps when full specs are not provided.
  • Use Figma and Adobe Creative Suite directly to make on-brand design decisions for components, spacing, typography, and micro-interactions without waiting for explicit direction.
  • Maintain a consistent visual system across the site as new pages and features are added.

Benefits

  • You will be paid in USD (bi-monthly: every 15th and 30th).
  • Up to 14 days of Paid Time Off annually (starting Day 1).
  • Observance of Holidays per company guidelines.
  • 100% remote setup so you can work wherever you're most productive.
  • Full ownership of a live, revenue-generating Shopify storefront from day one.
  • Direct collaboration with the Head of Product and Figma designer on a lean, high-output team.

How to Apply

Please include:

  • Your updated resume.
  • A portfolio link or 2 to 3 Shopify stores you have built or significantly customized.
  • A brief note on why this role interests you and how you approach building for Shopify.
  • A short Loom video (1 to 2 minutes) walking through a Shopify project you are proud of, what design or technical decisions you made independently, and how you used AI tools in your workflow.

Only candidates who submit both a portfolio and Loom video will be moved to the next step of the hiring process.

Application Process Overview

Our comprehensive selection process ensures we find the right fit for both you and our clients:

  • Initial Application - Submit your application and complete our prequalifying questions.
  • Video Introduction - Record a video introduction to showcase your communication skills and work experience.
  • Role-Specific Assessment - Complete a homework assignment tailored to the position (if applicable).
  • Recruitment Interview - Initial screening with our talent team.
  • Executive Interview - Meet with senior leadership to discuss role alignment.
  • Client Interview - Final interview with the client team you'd be supporting.
  • Background & Reference Check - Professional reference verification.
  • Job Offer - Successful candidates receive a formal offer to join the team.

Each stage is designed to evaluate your fit for the role while giving you insights into our company culture and expectations. We'll keep you informed throughout the process and provide feedback at each step.
