Role Description
Instagram's Trust & Safety Design team earns the trust of a global community of 2B+ people β with particular focus on teens, parents, and creators. This is design at the intersection of product, policy, and human behavior: you're shaping how safety feels across a platform used by 500 million+ teens globally, navigating an evolving regulatory landscape that makes the work both urgent and intellectually rich.
We're looking for a generalist systems thinker with a content design foundation β someone who has evolved into end-to-end product design leadership and brings that language-first sensibility to experiences where clarity, empathy, and precision are the design.
This work presents unique design challenges at Meta: policy and regulation aren't blockers β they're creative material. The work you ship here sets standards that ripple across the company.
Responsibilities
-
Lead the design vision for trust and safety experiences across Instagram β setting strategic direction at the portfolio level, not just individual features.
-
Design end-to-end product experiences for youth safety, parental controls, creator protections, and platform integrity β where clear, empathetic communication is the core UX.
-
Translate complex regulatory, policy, and safety requirements into intuitive, human-centered experiences that work for teens, parents, and creators alike.
-
Drive alignment and influence across Design, Product, Policy, Engineering, and Legal at senior leadership levels.
-
Define and elevate the craft of content-informed product design β mentoring designers and raising the bar for how we communicate sensitive topics at scale.
-
Navigate significant ambiguity and competing constraints to deliver cohesive, trustworthy experiences.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience in a relevant field.
-
8+ years of experience building and shipping applications or software at company-level scale, leading the end-to-end experience within a large-scale, ambiguous domain.
-
Content design background with demonstrated evolution into holistic product design (IxD + content + systems thinking).
-
Experience with mobile-first, consumer-social product design at scale.
-
Experience operating at principal/staff-level leadership β setting direction, influencing cross-functionally, and mentoring designers.
-
Comfort navigating ambiguity across design, product, policy, engineering, and legal.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience designing for teens/youth or family safety contexts.
-
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements).
-
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy review).
-
Understanding of the creator ecosystem and the tools that help drive better outcomes.
-
Ability to turn regulatory requirements into a human-centered, intuitive user experience.
-
Experience designing in Trust & Safety, well-being, or heavily regulated/policy-constrained spaces.
-
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies.
-
Strategic vision at the portfolio/program level.
