Role Description
Exygy seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, and creative Lead Designer who is passionate about making a difference in the world with design and technology. Join our tight-knit and growing product team to build out CiviForm, a platform that makes it easier to access and administer public benefits.
This role is an exciting opportunity to drive a new chapter in the platform’s design and work directly with local and state governments to hone a key piece of infrastructure through which they speak and deliver services to their residents.
- Set the design strategy and mentor other designers
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers in all phases of the design process
- Lead the creation of design assets that adhere to human-centered design principles
- Drive the governance of our design system
- Ensure the final user experience is accessible, impactful, and equitable
Responsibilities
- Collaborating on the strategy for CiviForm
- Lead design solutions including sitemaps, user journeys, wireframes, and visual mockups
- Evolving CiviForm’s design process
- Onboarding and design management for staff designers and design fellows
- Conducting research and discovery with design researchers
- Ensuring accessibility and usability through visual guidelines
- Maintaining CiviForm’s design system
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of human-centered design principles and processes
- Professional experience in civic tech, affordable housing, and/or social impact work
- Expert knowledge of Figma and additional design software (e.g., Dovetail, Miro, Google Workspace)
- Ability to articulate and justify design strategy
- Mentor junior designers and collaborate on UX/UI design best practices
- Strong collaboration abilities with a flexible approach
- Focus on both macro and micro design details
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
- Interest in developing skills and sharing knowledge
- Comfortable working within an agile development process
- Knowledge of equitable design processes
- Experience designing solutions for underserved populations
- Experience working with complex government stakeholders
- Knowledge of web accessibility best practices
- Experience with public sector design systems
- Knowledge of content strategy for government websites
- Experience building a government content management system
Education and Experience
- Degree in Design or equivalent experience required
- 7+ years of hands-on professional experience as a Product/UX and UI Designer
- An online portfolio demonstrating experience with UX Design across multiple verticals and platforms is required
