[Hiring] Vice President of Data @Attain Finance

Role Description

Attain Finance is hiring a Vice President of Data to lead and unify our data organization across a US and Canadian consumer-lending business. This leader owns our data architecture, data engineering, and business intelligence teams, the Snowflake data platform, and the enterprise strategy for reporting, data governance, and data quality. They turn data into a trusted, well-governed, decision-ready asset that powers underwriting, servicing, collections, and AI — in a regulated, security-conscious environment.

Responsibilities

• Teams: Data Architecture, Data Engineering, and Business Intelligence/Analytics engineering.
• Platform: the Snowflake data stack (incl. production databases) and the surrounding pipeline, modeling, and BI tooling (e.g., Sigma).
• Strategy: enterprise reporting/BI strategy, data governance (as the Technology owner, partnering with the Data Governance Council), and data quality.

• Set and execute the data architecture and platform strategy — scalable, secure, cost-managed Snowflake; data modeling standards; pipeline and lineage architecture; cloud-first on AWS.
• Lead data engineering — reliable, observable pipelines feeding decisioning (Eddie/DigiFi), servicing, and reporting; modern engineering practices (CI/CD, testing, IaC).
• Own BI and reporting — a trusted single source of truth, self-service analytics, and executive/operational/regulatory reporting; partner with Finance, Risk, Ops, and Compliance on their reporting needs.
• Drive data governance as Technology’s accountable owner — catalog, business glossary/CDEs, lineage, data classification, and the tooling/controls behind the DGC’s policies; serve as Tech owner/vice-chair of the Council.
• Establish data quality — rules, monitoring, and remediation on critical data elements; data quality as a measured, improving KPI.
• Partner on data security & privacy — RBAC/least-privilege and masking in Snowflake, classification-driven protection, and cross-border data-residency decisions (US/Canada and vendor/offshore), in lockstep with the CISO and Legal.
• Build and develop the team — org design, hiring, mentoring, and succession across Architecture, Engineering, and BI.
• Operate as a peer leader on the Tech leadership team; translate data strategy into business value for the ELT, Board, and PE owners.

Scope boundaries:

• Enterprise Architecture: data architecture (models, platform, pipelines, lineage) sits with this role; whole-stack/solution architecture remains with Enterprise Architecture. Partner, don’t overlap.
• Risk & Analytics: this role owns the data platform, engineering, governance, and reporting infrastructure; the Risk & Analytics function continues to own credit/decisioning models and analytics. This leader provides the trusted, governed data those models depend on.

What success looks like:

• A clear, funded data architecture + platform roadmap on Snowflake, with cost under management.
• Governance capability live where it matters most: data classification, Snowflake access controls + masking, catalog/lineage on critical data elements, and vendor/cross-border data rules.
• A measurable lift in data quality on critical data elements and a trusted BI/reporting layer the business relies on.
• A high-functioning, well-structured data org across Architecture, Engineering, and BI.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in data leadership with proven ownership of data architecture, engineering, and BI at scale; prior SVP/VP/Head-of-Data or equivalent.
• Deep Snowflake and modern-data-stack expertise; strong cloud (AWS) and data-modeling/architecture foundation.
• Demonstrated data governance and data quality programs in a regulated environment (financial services strongly preferred) — familiarity with GLBA, PCI-DSS, NYDFS 500, and Canadian privacy (PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25) a plus.
• Track record building and leading high-performing teams and operating as a credible peer to engineering/product leadership and the executive team.
• Strong communicator — able to make data strategy legible to Boards, investors, and non-technical partners.

Requirements

• Base Salary: $250,000 - $300,000 USD
• The actual base salary offered for this full-time position will be determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, skills, knowledge, competencies, and experience.
