Role Description

RESPEC is seeking a full-time Power BI Developer. You will turn student loan data into dashboards and reports that decision-makers can trust for the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE).

Your main goal is a stable, reliable Power BI Service environment. You will:

• Write SQL queries and validate loan data from many sources.
• Build complex custom visualizations.
• Move legacy Tableau and Crystal reports into Power BI.
• Train State staff and work closely with business and technical teams.
• Help shape how this environment is built.

Core Responsibilities:

• Design and maintain Power BI dashboards for a variety of business users, including custom UI visualizations built to specification, ad hoc reporting, and automated exports to tools like Excel.
• Write and extract SQL queries, validate data quality across multiple datasets, and perform root cause analysis on loan-related data issues and anomalies.
• Develop data refresh strategies sourced from Azure SQL Server and other systems.
• Set up and configure Power BI within the Power Platform environment.
• Establish best-practice security, accessibility, and access-management controls, and remediate accessibility issues in existing reports.
• Ensure every report meets performance and client requirements.
• Gather and document business requirements and business rules, and fill in when a business analyst is unavailable.
• Lead technical meetings and write technical manuals.
• Deliver Power BI training, mentoring, and co-development sessions.
• Provide daily project status reports to the client and complete a thorough knowledge transfer before the engagement ends.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of advanced Power BI development.
• Robust experience validating student loan data, including forbearance data.
• Strong experience in technical documentation.
• Excellent communication skills, including with senior leaders.
• Versatile presentation skills, both informal and formal.

Requirements

• Hands-on SQL experience with Azure SQL Server.
• Background in Power Platform configuration, Tableau or Crystal Reports migration, and accessibility remediation.
• Experience with report security and access management.
• Excel export automation experience.
• Training or mentoring non-technical users is also helpful.
