The Data Governance Lead is a pivotal role within the AEI Data & Analytics (D&A) organization, responsible for establishing a comprehensive data governance and security strategy. This role will drive the strategic direction of Asahi data initiatives, ensuring data quality, consistency, and security to enable informed decision-making and achieve strategic organizational objectives.
1. Strategy Development and Implementation:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and lead a robust data governance strategy to ensure data quality, consistency, and security across the organization.
Policy Formulation:
Develop and enforce data governance policies, standards, and practices aligning with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Ensure comprehensive coverage and adherence to policies.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the data governance framework complies with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Proactively adapt to changes in the regulatory landscape.
2. Data Governance Practices:
Master Data Management:
Accountable for managing master data to ensure consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
Data Quality Monitoring:
Implement and manage systems for monitoring data quality behind transactional data to ensure high standards of data integrity.
Product Certification:
Drive strategy and establish certification processes and mechanisms for data and analytics products to meet quality and governance standards.
Self-Service Delivery:
Optimize and promote self-service analytics capabilities while maintaining strict governance and security controls.
Security and Access Management:
Implement and oversee robust security and data access management practices to protect sensitive information.
3. Compliance and Monitoring:
Policy Enforcement:
Drive strategic frameworks and tools to oversee adherence to data governance policies and regulatory requirements.
Ensure consistent compliance across the organization.
Monitoring Systems:
Establish robust monitoring systems to track compliance.
Identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks associated with data governance.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Consensus Building:
Executive Collaboration:
Influence, negotiate, and collaborate with senior and executive stakeholders to build consensus and support for the data governance vision and strategy.
Communication and Training:
Coordinate communication and training initiatives to ensure stakeholders understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining data governance standards.
Bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences.
5. Data Quality and Integrity:
Initiatives Champion:
Accountable and a thought leader for initiatives that enhance data accuracy, integrity, and reliability.
Reinforce data as the single source of truth.
Issue Resolution:
Drive strategies to address data quality issues promptly.
Implement preventative measures to mitigate future risks and ensure continuous improvement.
6. Leadership and Team Development:
Team Leadership:
Lead, coach, and develop the data governance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Talent Management:
Identify and recruit top talent to build a high-performing team.
Ensure the team is equipped with the skills and expertise needed to drive the data governance agenda.
Quality Assurance:
Oversee the quality of the team’s work to maintain high standards across all data governance activities.
7. Thought Leadership:
Industry Influence:
Provide thought leadership on data governance best practices, emerging trends, and innovative approaches.
Position the organization as a leader in data governance.
Agenda Setting:
Shape the strategic direction of the organization’s data governance agenda.
Align with broader business objectives and drive continuous advancement.
8. Executive Communication and Influence:
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with senior and executive stakeholders.
Act as a trusted advisor on data governance matters.
Strategic Communication:
Develop compelling narratives and presentations to communicate the impact and value of data governance initiatives.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for senior executives.
Ensure broad understanding and adoption across the organization.
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field.
Proven track record of leading and implementing data governance programs in a complex organizational environment.
Experience in developing and maintaining data governance frameworks, policies, and standards. Demonstrated success in driving data quality and integrity initiatives.
Proficiency in data governance and MDM tools and technologies, such as Semarchy, Cluedin, Stibo, SAP MDG, Purview, Alation, or similar platforms.
Strong understanding of data management practices, including master data management (MDM), data lineage, metadata management, data quality management, and data stewardship.
Expertise with data quality monitoring behind transactional data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Knowledge of data and analytics product certification processes to ensure data products meet quality and governance standards.
Experience in promoting self-service delivery of data and analytics while maintaining governance and security controls.
Strong understanding of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and their implications for data governance.
Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and database management systems.
Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP), or similar are highly desirable.
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Experience in facilitating training and workshops to promote data governance awareness and best practices.
Highly analytical mindset with a strong ability to analyze data and identify patterns, trends, and issues.
Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and implement effective solutions for data governance challenges.
Solid project management skills with experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
