[Hiring] Data Engineer II @Splice

Role Description

We're looking for a Data Engineer II to join Splice's Data Engineering team and help scale the platform that powers creator payouts, revenue reporting, and product analytics across Splice's product lines.

• Build and maintain the reliable foundation that makes trusted data possible.
• Enable teams across Splice to work from a governed, consistent source of truth.
• Accountable for the warehouse and pipeline foundation; ingestion, transformations, and quality guardrails.
• Carry features from technical design through delivery, monitoring, and documentation.
• Participate in our on-call rotation.
• Hands-on data engineering experience required.
• Stack includes BigQuery, SQLMesh, Python, Dagster.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a production environment.
• Proficiency in SQL — window functions, CTEs, query optimization, execution plan analysis.
• Proficiency in Python for pipeline logic, data transformation, and testing.
• Experience with a modern transformation framework — SQLMesh, dbt, or equivalent.
• Production experience with a cloud data warehouse (we use BigQuery).
• Experience with at least one workflow orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to build observable, reliable data systems.
• Comfortable owning small-to-medium features from technical design through delivery with limited guidance.

Requirements

• Build and maintain data models in SQLMesh, including incremental strategies, testing, and documentation.
• Continuously improve and evolve orchestration and transformation infrastructure.
• Modernize legacy pipeline jobs in Python and SQLMesh.
• Participate in on-call rotation; triage and resolve incidents.
• Build introspectable software: define alert thresholds, emit metrics and logs, produce dashboards.
• Improve observability across the platform.
• Extend and maintain pipelines powering creator payouts and GAAP-compliant revenue reporting.
• Build pipeline support for new revenue streams.
• Improve query performance and reduce compute costs in BigQuery.
• Contribute to ingestion platform work and product analytics infrastructure.
• Uphold our definition of done: validation complete, documentation updated, monitoring in place.
