Role Description

We're hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join University, a brand new team focused on agent memory, evolution, and reasoning.

• Build agent memory systems, including mechanisms that generate, curate, refine, and store information.
• Design memory with constraints to ensure confidentiality and scoping.
• Build systems that monitor agent behavior and turn insights into shared best practices.
• Create reusable "skills" for agents, enhancing reasoning, financial decisions, and report writing.
• Design and run tests and benchmarks to validate improvements.
• Help shape the technical roadmap for agent memory and reasoning.
• Take undefined problems and design real, shippable solutions.
• Document methodologies clearly for others to build upon.

Qualifications

• Experience shipping production agents or agent-adjacent systems.
• Experience with memory, context engineering, or techniques for improving agent reasoning without retraining.
• Applied, builder's mindset with rigorous thinking.
• Comfortable owning ambiguous, senior-level problems independently.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals alongside ML and agent experience.
• Practical fluency with modern agent tooling stack (e.g., vector databases, retrieval frameworks, agent orchestration tools).
• Experience working directly with LLM provider APIs and embedding models for retrieval and memory systems.
• Familiarity with agent evaluation and benchmarking tools.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) paired with real industry experience (preferred).
• Experience testing and benchmarking agent behavior.
• Experience building "skills" or reusable capabilities for AI agents.
• Experience with agents handling complex information.
• Experience in a fast-scaling product and engineering organization.
• Experience with large data volumes.
