[Hiring] Lead Machine Learning Scientist, Search @Monzo

Role Description

As a Lead Machine Learning Scientist, you'll be a technical leader and individual contributor. We have a modern, cloud-native data platform with billions of rows of data built for fast iterations. You'll leverage your deep expertise to develop and deploy advanced ML models to our more than 15 million customers.

• Build and ship models that help customers search for and find answers about their financial lives.
• Make it effortless for customers to find the right products at the exact moment they need them.
• Work on user and product embeddings to better understand customer behaviours.
• Utilize contextual bandits for optimizing real-time decisions.
• Develop personalized ranking algorithms that improve search and discovery.
• Build scalable, explainable, and responsible AI solutions that enhance trust, transparency, and the overall customer experience.
• Encourage and support experimentation and innovation in technical approaches.
• Justify and demonstrate effectiveness of approaches to meet business and customer needs.

Qualifications

• Multiple year track record of excellence leading the development and deployment of advanced Machine Learning models.
• Experience developing and shipping state of the art ML models to production and delivering business impact.
• Impact driven and excited to own the end to end journey from business problem to measurable impact in production.
• Self-starter mindset; proactively identify issues and opportunities.
• Fluent in Python with extensive, hands-on experience with scikit-learn.
• Comfortable using SQL and keen to learn Go lang.
• Experience helping teams and stakeholders resolve ambiguity.
• Product mindset; care about customer outcomes and make data-informed decisions.
• Excited about fast-moving developments in Machine Learning and can communicate ideas to non-experts.
• Adaptable, curious, and enjoy learning new technologies and ideas.

Requirements

• Experience working on personalization, ranking & recommendation problems for consumer applications (nice to have).
• Commercial experience writing critical production code and working with microservices (nice to have).
