[Hiring] Emerging Technology & AI Governance & Enablement Lead @Code for America

Role Description

Code for America is looking for a talented Emerging Technology & AI Governance & Enablement Lead who will shape how our staff engages with emerging AI tools by building the infrastructure, fluency, and trust that allows people to say "yes" safely. This role will ensure that Code for America adopts emerging AI technologies responsibly, directly reducing risk, improving staff capacity, and enabling programs to deliver greater impact.

The Emerging Technology & AI Governance & Enablement Lead is responsible for:

• Owning the full lifecycle of Code for America's AI Acceptable Use Policy.
• Advising on employee-facing implications of AI tool deployment.
• Writing governance frameworks and policy documents in accessible formats.
• Serving as an internal consultant to teams exploring AI-assisted workflows.
• Documenting and sharing learnings from team-level pilots.
• Acting as a liaison between IT/security and non-technical teams.
• Partnering with People Operations and Legal on AI-related employment policies.
• Leading change management for AI-related transitions.

Qualifications

• 5–8+ years of experience in IT, compliance, security, learning & development, or organizational change.
• Demonstrated experience drafting and managing the lifecycle of acceptable use or information security policies.
• Experience with AI tools and understanding of emerging best practices in AI governance.
• Familiarity with the intersection of technology policy and employment practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience designing and facilitating training or enablement programs.
• Proven ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships.
• Experience with change management principles.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity.
• A deep commitment to Code for America's mission.

• Ability to assess and screen vendors/contractors for security and compliance risk.
• Tenacity and adaptability in navigating relationships and technical challenges.

• Salary range: $128,945 to $157,850 annually.
