[Hiring] Solutions Engineer @Foundant + smartsimple

Role Description

• Serve as Foundant's product expert on CommunitySuite — its architecture, functionality, and application across the foundation landscape.
• Participate in discovery conversations to uncover real problems, leveraging accounting background to ask relevant questions.
• Design and deliver tailored product demonstrations for finance and executive decision-makers, connecting capabilities to desired outcomes.
• Own the technical portions of proposals and RFP responses, and manage product evaluation environments through the evaluation process.
• Evaluate legacy system data and recommend migration paths for clients, being transparent about effort and tradeoffs involved.
• Resolve technical objections during the sales cycle, engineering answers in real time and knowing when to involve Product, Client Services, or Engineering.
• Support the handoff from Sales to Client Services on large and complex implementations, ensuring promises made in the sales cycle are fulfilled.
• Represent Foundant at conferences, workshops, webinars, and user groups, advocating for enhancements based on client feedback.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of accounting experience within the philanthropic sector, or equivalent experience as a pre-sales or solutions engineer for accounting software.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting and financial reporting, including fund accounting concepts.
• Working knowledge of how foundations operate, including finance, grantmaking, and donor-facing functions.
• Demonstrated experience delivering software demonstrations or technical presentations to decision-makers.
• Experience presenting to and advising executive-level stakeholders.
• Exposure to change management or business process reengineering methodologies.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field (preferred).
• Ability to travel approximately 10–20%.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States or Canada.

• Translates CommunitySuite's fund accounting and reporting capabilities into financial and operational outcomes that foundations care about.
• Treats a prospect's evaluation as the start of a client relationship, surfacing constraints and tradeoffs honestly.
• Partners closely with Sales, Product, Client Services, and Engineering throughout the cycle for a clean transition to implementation.
• Stays current on CommunitySuite releases, fund accounting practice, and competitive positioning, sharing knowledge with the team.
