[Hiring] Scout @Baltimore Orioles

Role Description

This position will require applicant to identify and evaluate amateur prospects in the Northeast region of the United States in preparation for the First-Year Player Draft, in addition to other assigned scouting duties. This position will report through the Domestic Scouting department and work with all types of baseball operations personnel.

• Evaluate & recommend amateur players for the First-Year Player Draft
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of Orioles’ values & strategy
• Communicate and collaborate with employees throughout the Orioles organization
• Utilize video, scouting information, data & technology to enhance decision making on players
• Compose scouting reports on draft eligible players
• Build relationships with players and families of players
• Build & maintain relationships with programs/coaches in the region
• Assess player’s makeup through various avenues including player interviews, coach connections and other means
• Plan and organize workouts for staff to evaluate players
• Maintain an organized schedule and manage time effectively to ensure area coverage
• Collect video on draft eligible players and upload to video system
• Perform and execute Pro Scouting coverage as assigned
• Represent Orioles organization in a professional manner

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Ability to work long hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, & often in adverse outdoor conditions
• Ability to own and operate a vehicle and travel extensively
• Strong ability to self-motivate, self-organize, and attention to detail
• Exceptional communication skills
• High computer and internet proficiency
• Strong knowledge of baseball information & evaluation
• At least 3 years’ experience from a variety of backgrounds, which can include: Scouting, Coaching, Education, Business, or other fields
• Prior playing experience

• This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
• Requires the consistent exercise of independent judgment, oversight of major partnership accounts, and significant cross-functional collaboration
• Includes managing strategic responsibilities, operating autonomously, and working outside standard business hours during games and events
• Flexibility, leadership, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment are essential
