Role Description

We are looking for an exceptional Principal Consultant with deep expertise in Life Cycle Assessment and the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, as well as a track record of strategic service-line leadership and commercial growth. This is a senior, client-facing role combining technical leadership, project delivery, business development, and strategic growth.

• Lead complex LCA and CBAM engagements.
• Act as Anthesis’s lead consultant for CBAM work.
• Help clients understand and respond to the rapidly evolving commercial and regulatory landscape.
• Grow our business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead CBAM projects and technical delivery:
• Maintain a detailed understanding of the regulation, its implementation, and implications for importers and non-EU suppliers.
• Lead complex CBAM engagements, including exposure assessments, embedded-emissions calculations, supplier data collection, emissions reporting, cost modelling, implementation planning, and strategic advice.
• Translate regulatory developments into clear, practical guidance for clients.
• Maintain a forward-looking perspective on likely regulatory developments and emerging client needs.
• Lead LCA and product-footprinting engagements:
• Lead the technical design of a broad range of LCA and product carbon footprinting projects.
• Select appropriate methodologies, system boundaries, data sources, assumptions, and modelling approaches.
• Oversee modelling in SimaPro and maintain high standards of quality.
• Apply LCA findings to real-world business decisions.
• Create trusted client partnerships:
• Build a strong understanding of clients’ operations and strategic priorities.
• Turn complex technical and regulatory issues into clear insights.
• Act as a trusted senior adviser in client meetings and presentations.
• Develop strong, long-term client relationships.
• Win high-quality work:
• Lead business-development conversations across LCA and CBAM.
• Diagnose client needs and develop compelling proposals.
• Work with colleagues to identify opportunities and convert relationships into new work.
• Drive strategic and commercial growth:
• Lead the development and execution of the go-to-market plan for Anthesis’s CBAM offering.
• Assess market trends and develop practical growth initiatives.
• Help evolve Anthesis’s CBAM offer towards scalable programmes and recurring client relationships.
• Lead projects, teams, and quality:
• Provide strong project leadership across complex engagements.
• Coach and support consultants to strengthen technical capability and client-management skills.
• Contribute to the development of consistent methodologies and quality controls.
• Communicate with impact:
• Turn detailed analysis into compelling stories with clear commercial relevance.
• Produce concise reports, presentations, and thought-leadership materials.
• Represent Anthesis in external forums.

Qualifications

• Strong practical knowledge of the EU CBAM Regulation.
• Extensive professional experience conducting and leading Life Cycle Assessments and product carbon footprints.
• Excellent understanding of LCA standards, methodologies, and data quality.
• Advanced experience using SimaPro.
• Demonstrable experience leading complex consulting projects.
• Excellent client-management skills.
• Strong business-development capability.
• Strong strategic and commercial judgement.
• Ability to translate technical analysis into clear recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal English.

Requirements

• Experience delivering CBAM work for EU importers and non-EU producers.
• Experience with supplier engagement and primary-data collection.
• Experience developing or scaling new consulting propositions.
• Familiarity with digital LCA and carbon-accounting tools.
• Experience in a professional-services or sustainability-consulting environment.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification in LCA, environmental science, or related discipline.
• An additional European language.
