Role Description
The Planner role requires an individual with a strong analytical background in housing, climate adaptation and resilience, and/or community development and interest in disaster recovery and grant management. The Community Planning & Resilience Division includes urban planning, policy, and grant management projects, and the Planner position will provide support across program areas.
- Conduct data collection, synthesis, and reporting using a variety of data sources.
- Coordinate data collection, statistical analysis, and data visualization using a variety of data sources and tools (including Geographic Information Systems).
- Conduct research and analysis for clients, stakeholders, and the public.
- Draft plans, reports, and assessments based on research and analysis.
- Develop presentations of research and analysis for clients, stakeholders, and the public.
- Draft documents, memos, letters, and other formal communications to clients.
- Provide support and facilitate internal and client-facing meetings, workshops, and presentations.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings and community engagement efforts.
- Independently manage assigned project tasks and timelines.
- Capture, compile, and edit notes from internal meetings and external meetings with clients.
- Support Project Managers as needed in the delivery of services to clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required and a preference for Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Real Estate, Geography, Urban Studies, or similar discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in community planning, housing, climate resilience, or grant management.
Requirements
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills with an attention for detail.
- Proficient in the use Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Proficient in data visualization and document design and formatting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience developing and drafting reports, regulatory analyses, and technical assistance guidance materials.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work collaboratively, effectively communicate, and meet tight deadlines.
- Capable of retrieving, analyzing, and synthesizing data in an efficient, clear, and meaningful way.
- Effective project and task management skills, as well as the ability to move seamlessly between projects, tasks, and subject matter.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented and ability to self-organize and self-direct project tasks assigned.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficient in the use of the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience working with federal programs or planning processes, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and/or the Department of Energy (DOE).
- Experience in housing, community development, HUD programs, and/or grant management.
- Experience working with diverse populations and communities to engage them in planning and development processes.
- Interest in current best practices across planning, sustainability and resilience, public sector management, and organizational development.
