Role Description

The Metadata Content Specialist (MCS) analyzes and synthesizes content with the aid of AI, LLM, and other automated systems from scholarly journal articles, book chapters, and other sources to create records for APA’s discovery solutions.

The MCS is required to comprehend psychometric concepts and methodology in psychology and social science disciplines to describe and index content properly. This person must demonstrate an understanding of both interdisciplinary and international research and familiarity with LLM to extract data from these publications.

The MCS is responsible for the quality control of records before they are released into products. He/she also helps to develop and refine processes and automated tools to enhance the quality of records, while maximizing efficiencies in processing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in psychology or related social science field, with significant coursework in psychology.
• Two years’ experience in online production in a scholarly publication environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs record creation and quality assurance activities across APA’s online discovery solutions.
• Selects articles, books, and chapters, and tests from scholarly publications in psychology and related fields from English and non-English sources.
• Occasionally creates records representing the content of documents, providing users with accurate descriptive information and precision search.
• Performs Quality Assurance reviews of basic records created by staff, freelancers, and outsource vendor(s).
• Performs duties that support record production, such as identifying inconsistencies in automated output, improving error rates generated by automated processes, contributing to feedback and development of machine-aided indexing, and testing quality control.
• Collaborates with other staff across OPD/APA on various projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
