Role Description

This role will drive the successful delivery of Canadian Business Banking's customer remediation program. CBB needs to bolster critical customer profile data to support KYC and Tax monitoring. An external team has been established for inbound and outbound calling. This role will be responsible to oversee and represent this initiative.

  • Monitor the existing process, address deficiencies, identify opportunities for improvement, and execute smooth change management of the process.
  • Manage key relationships through the process including CBB leadership, front line sales and service personnel, technology, first and second line risk partners, and a team of 1 internal resource and ~30 contract agents.
  • Support the business/group leader in the effective implementation, maintenance, and administration of first line of defense (1st LOD) programs (e.g., operational risk, AML, compliance, regulatory, etc.).
  • Contribute to a strong risk management culture through collaboration with other first line employees, and second & third line functions.
  • Contribute to the business’ accountability for the delivery of regulatory programs across applicable Tier 1 Risk Types.
  • Support the design of governance and control requirements for products, processes, and channels.
  • Support effective and efficient compliance with regulatory obligations in alignment with the Bank’s Risk Management Framework and approved Risk Appetite.
  • Foster a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values, and strategy.
  • Ensure alignment between values and behaviour that fosters diversity and inclusion.
  • Regularly connect work to BMO’s purpose, set inspirational goals, define clear expected outcomes, and ensure clear accountability for follow-through.

  • Support the position on regulatory compliance issues by interpreting requirements and identifying, analyzing, and addressing resultant gaps and issues.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the evaluation, development, and implementation of an internal control system.
  • Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment between stakeholders.
  • Break down strategic problems, and analyze data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor and track performance, and address any issues.
  • Build change management plans of varying scope and type.
  • Monitor to ensure that 1st line jobs are following defined processes and procedures.
  • Develop, document, and maintain business/group procedures.
  • Design measurable sustainment strategies including assessing and recommending mitigations for industry/segment-specific risks.
  • Track exception/exemption requests and corresponding approvals.
  • Facilitate training to ensure business unit employees fully understand requirements.
  • Provide quality control for investigations, self-reports, examinations, and independent reviews.
  • May act as the designated Primary Business Unit Compliance Officer (BUCO) and/or Anti-Money Laundering Reporting Officer.
  • Build awareness, knowledge, and skills and provide communication, practical tools, and ongoing support.
  • Support the design, development, coordination of implementation, automation, and continuous improvement of 1LOD LOB risk management programs.
  • Work with assigned business/group leaders to interpret, apply and operationalize relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Conduct or support self-assessments to demonstrate control effectiveness and adherence.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the business/group strategies and objectives.
  • Identify, investigate, analyze, document & mitigate program risks.
  • Contribute to a strong risk culture through collaboration with 1LOD and engagement with 2LOD and 3LOD.
  • Analyze the impact and effectiveness of the program through periodic reviews.
  • Recommend adjustments to the overall program, policy, or processes.
  • Support the business/group through internal/external audits or regulatory examinations.
  • Provide support to the development and delivery of training and awareness programs.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provide specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems.
  • Work independently and regularly handle non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Program management skills - In-depth.
