Role Description

Join RSNA’s Government Relations team and help shape federal policies that impact radiology, imaging search, technology innovation, and patient care. We are seeking a Government Relations professional in the metro DC area who can track and analyze legislative and regulatory developments, turn complex policy issues into clear and engaging communications, and help advance RSNA’s advocacy priorities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the intersection of public policy, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement.

As a key member of a small, high-impact team, you’ll partner closely with the Director of Government Relations to:

  • Strengthen RSNA’s federal advocacy efforts.
  • Build relationships with policymakers and partner organizations.
  • Keep RSNA members informed about the policy issues that matter most to their profession.
  • Lead the department’s communications strategy.
  • Manage the operational processes that keep advocacy initiatives organized, effective, and measurable.

This Job Might Be for You If You:

  • Want to work for a mission-driven organization dedicated to advancing patient care and supporting medical professionals.
  • Enjoy translating complex policy issues into meaningful insights and action.
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment where your work has visible impact.
  • Value flexibility and work-life balance in a fully remote role.
  • Appreciate a competitive compensation and benefits package, including comprehensive medical and dental coverage, strong retirement benefits, generous paid time off, a week-long Winter Break, paid parental leave, and more.
  • Are committed to continuous learning and professional growth.

What You’ll Do:

  • Policy Monitoring, Research & Analysis: Monitor and analyze federal legislative, regulatory, and agency developments affecting RSNA priorities. Research emerging policy issues and translate complex information into clear summaries, reports, and advocacy resources that support informed decision-making and strategic engagement.
  • Strategic Communications: Lead Government Relations communications in partnership with RSNA’s Public Information and Communications team. Manage the monthly RSNA Washington Update e-newsletter, web content, social media messaging, and internal communications. Help members and leaders stay informed by delivering timely, accessible, and relevant policy updates while strengthening awareness of RSNA’s advocacy efforts.
  • Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement: Support RSNA’s relationship with congressional offices, federal agencies, coalition partners, and professional societies. Identify opportunities for member engagement in the policymaking process, develop advocacy and briefing materials, coordinate meetings and outreach efforts, and represent RSNA at policy events and stakeholder meetings as appropriate.
  • Committee & Department Operations: Serve as a staff liaison to the RSNA Government Relations Committee alongside the Director of Government Relations. Manage department workflows, reporting, timelines, SharePoint resources, and meeting coordination to ensure projects stay organized, progress is visible, and priorities remain aligned with organizational goals.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in government relations, public policy, advocacy, health policy, science policy, legislative affairs, regulatory affairs, congressional or agency affairs, or the nonprofit medical/scientific association space; minimum of three years required.
  • Strong understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes and entities (e.g. U.S. Congress; Department of Health and Human Services; Food and Drug Administration; National Institutes of Health; etc.)
  • Excellent research, analysis, and project management skills.
  • Superb verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and communicate confidently with physicians, researchers, policymakers, senior staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while communicating proactively and collaborating effectively with a small team.
  • While RSNA Government Relations team members are based in Washington, DC, the organization’s headquarters and the majority of its staff are based in Oak Brook, IL. Occasional travel to Illinois required.
  • Travel and attendance at in-person events and meetings in the metro DC area required.

Benefits
