[Hiring] Lien Resolution Strategist @ZipLiens

Today - ZipLiens is hiring a remote Lien Resolution Strategist. 💸 Salary: $66,000 - $90,000 annually, with quarterly bonus opportunity 📍Location: USA

Role Description

As a Lien Resolution Strategist, you’ll own a caseload of Single Event medical lien files from intake through final resolution. You’ll set negotiation strategy, resolve complex liens across Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, and provider claims, and partner closely with account management, agency management, and medical review to give customers a high-touch experience. You’ll also spend time testing new approaches, building playbooks, and helping shape the workflows and tools built around the work.

This is a senior-level role for an experienced lien resolution professional who puts customers first, likes solving hard problems, and wants a hand in shaping how the work gets done.

Responsibilities

  • Lien Resolution & Negotiation
    • Own a caseload of Single Event medical lien files for a select group of customers, from intake through final resolution, across lien types including Medicare/MSP, Medicaid, ERISA/self-funded plans, hospital and provider liens, and VA/TRICARE.
    • Set negotiation strategy and settlement targets on assigned files independently, and decide when files need leadership review.
    • Approve settlement terms within defined authority limits.
    • Analyze lien details and supporting documentation (medical records, billing, insurance information, plan language) to find the strongest path to reduction.
    • Negotiate lien reductions with healthcare providers, insurers and government payers, including disputes, appeals, and waiver or compromise requests where applicable.
    • Communicate directly with customers from intake through resolution: confirm case details and settlement nuances early, advise on lien strategy and its impact on the settlement, and walk customers through complex positions and outcomes.
    • Own the quality and accuracy of each file throughout its lifecycle.
  • Customer Experience & Collaboration
    • Partner with Customer Success to co-own the customer relationship, including regular touch-base calls, so customers have a clear view of their files and a high-touch experience.
    • Help build customer update steps into workflows so customers understand case updates.
    • Work closely with Agency Management, applying agreed standards and procedures in daily work with agencies and lienholders, and flagging what’s working or needs to change.
    • Partner with the medical review team to define how medical review is used in Single Event lien resolution, and help build it into workflows.
    • Test new R&D initiatives on live files before they roll out more broadly, and share feedback on results.
    • Decide which file steps to keep and which to delegate to support team members, and coordinate that work.
  • Process & Workflow Development
    • Partner with the Sr. Director, Product, and Development teams to design and refine workflows for each medical lien type.
    • Pilot new workflows and approaches on live files (negotiation tactics, sequencing, documentation standards), and report on results so what works can be shared across Single Event lien resolution.
    • Own and maintain playbooks for assigned lien types, refining them as approaches are tested so they can be used across Single Event lien resolution as it scales.
    • Help set productivity and capacity benchmarks for the team.
    • Help define what the technology should do, giving hands-on feedback on portal features and automated workflows so tools are built around how the work is done in practice.
  • Expertise & Standards
    • Apply in-depth knowledge of federal and state lien rules to file strategy and complex issues.
    • Keep thorough documentation of all lien resolution activity that meets internal standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Stay current on lien resolution law, regulations, and industry practice, and share relevant changes with the team.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in medical lien resolution or subrogation, with direct negotiation of medical liens.
  • Hands-on experience across multiple lien types, including Medicare/MSP conditional payments, Medicaid, ERISA/self-funded plans, and hospital and provider liens.
  • Working knowledge of the rules behind each lien type, such as the Medicare Secondary Payer Act, ERISA plan language and preemption, and state lien statutes and reduction doctrines (e.g., made-whole, common fund).
  • Strong negotiation skills, with a record of securing meaningful reductions from providers, insurers and government payers, including on disputed or high-value liens.
  • Track record of independently resolving complex files, such as multiple liens, disputed amounts, appeals, and waiver or compromise requests.
  • A customer-first mindset. You focus on the best outcome for the client and their case, communicate proactively, and are responsive and reliable through resolution.
  • Clear, confident communication in writing and in conversation, including advising attorneys on lien strategy and how liens affect settlement outcomes, in plain terms.
  • Sharp attention to detail. You catch errors in billing, records and plan language that affect the outcome.
  • Experience improving how work gets done, such as writing procedures or playbooks, piloting new approaches, or helping implement a new system. Able to explain your reasoning clearly enough that it can be documented, taught and built into tools.
  • Comfortable on a small, collaborative team where processes are still being defined, and testing and adjusting as you learn what works.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Benefits

  • Private Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Company HSA contributions for HDHP participants
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Health & Dependent Care)
  • Company-Paid Short-Term Disability Coverage
  • Voluntary Long-Term Disability, Life, AD&D, and Supplemental Coverage Options
  • 401(k) Plan with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick Time & 10 paid Holidays)
  • Parental Leave
  • Pay Disclosure: The total base salary range for this role is $66,000 - $90,000 annually, with opportunity for a quarterly discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be determined based on skills and experience.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored visa support now or in the future.
