[Hiring] International Consultant - Humanitarian Expert @UN Women

Role Description

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February 2022 triggered the largest and fastest-growing displacement crisis in Europe since the Second World War. Within months, millions had fled their homes — westward within Ukraine and across borders into neighboring countries — with women and children constituting around 90 per cent of the initial refugee outflow, as martial law restricted the departure of men of conscription age.

In Ukraine, UN Women works to ensure that the humanitarian response to the full-scale war addresses the distinct needs, priorities and rights of women and girls. It also supports women and girls to participate and lead in crisis response and recovery. Drawing on its triple mandate — normative, coordination and operational — UN Women’s Ukraine Country Office supports the humanitarian architecture in Ukraine to deliver on its gender equality commitments.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social science, sociology, international development, gender/women studies or related area.
• At least 7 years of practical experience in humanitarian policy and programming.
• Strong knowledge of the UN Humanitarian architecture, including the Humanitarian Reset and ongoing UN 80 reform.
• Knowledge of the role of UN Women and its humanitarian programming, coordination and normative roles at the regional and country level.
• Country or regional experience in the ECA region and in particular in Ukraine would be an advantage.
• Language proficiency in both written and spoken English.
