Role Description

The Head of Enterprise Architecture is a senior technology executive responsible for defining and executing the organization's enterprise architecture strategy across business capabilities, applications, data, cloud, cybersecurity, integration, AI, and digital platforms. This leader will establish the long-term technology vision, ensuring enterprise systems are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with strategic business objectives.

The role oversees enterprise architecture across a complex Property & Casualty insurance environment, guiding modernization initiatives, technology investments, and architectural standards that support policy administration, claims, underwriting, customer engagement, data, analytics, and AI-enabled business capabilities.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in enterprise architecture, modern cloud platforms, core insurance technologies, enterprise integration, data strategy, cybersecurity, and AI. Experience supporting acquisitions, platform consolidation, and enterprise transformation within the P&C insurance industry is highly desirable.

This executive will lead architecture governance, partner closely with business and technology leadership, and ensure technology decisions balance innovation, operational excellence, scalability, security, and long-term business value.

Key Responsibilities

• Enterprise Architecture Leadership
  • Develop and execute the enterprise architecture strategy across business, application, data, integration, cloud, security, and AI domains.
  • Define future-state architecture, technology standards, reference architectures, capability roadmaps, and modernization strategies.
  • Serve as the senior architecture advisor to executive leadership on technology direction, platform investments, modernization efforts, and strategic initiatives.
  • Translate business priorities into practical technology roadmaps that improve agility, scalability, resiliency, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
• Business Platform Strategy
  • Lead architecture for enterprise platforms supporting policy administration, billing, claims, underwriting, customer engagement, digital experiences, reporting, and enterprise data.
  • Drive standardization and reuse across enterprise capabilities while enabling flexibility for evolving business needs.
  • Guide architectural decisions involving core insurance platforms, digital solutions, enterprise applications, integration technologies, and data platforms.
  • Reduce technical complexity through application rationalization, platform modernization, and reusable architectural patterns.
• Enterprise Transformation & Integration
  • Provide architecture leadership for mergers, acquisitions, platform integrations, and enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Define scalable integration approaches for applications, data, identity management, reporting, and business processes.
  • Partner with cross-functional business and technology leaders to evaluate technology implications of strategic initiatives and organizational growth.
  • Develop repeatable architectural frameworks and integration standards that accelerate future transformation efforts.
• Architecture Governance
  • Lead enterprise architecture governance and oversee architecture review processes for strategic technology initiatives.
  • Establish architecture principles, technology standards, reference models, and decision frameworks.
  • Review enterprise solutions to ensure alignment with architecture standards, security requirements, scalability objectives, and long-term technology strategy.
  • Measure architecture effectiveness through platform simplification, technical debt reduction, modernization progress, resiliency, and delivery efficiency.
• Cloud, Data & Emerging Technology
  • Define enterprise cloud architecture across public cloud and hybrid environments using modern engineering practices.
  • Champion API-first, event-driven, and modular integration strategies.
  • Lead enterprise data architecture, including governance, master data, analytics, reporting, AI readiness, and information management.
  • Establish enterprise AI architecture patterns that support intelligent automation, analytics, customer engagement, software engineering, and operational efficiency while maintaining governance, privacy, and security.
  • Partner with cybersecurity leadership to embed secure-by-design principles, Zero Trust architecture, regulatory compliance, and secure software development practices throughout the technology landscape.
• Executive Leadership
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, product organizations, engineering teams, infrastructure, security, data, and external technology partners to align enterprise technology priorities.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing enterprise architecture teams across multiple architecture disciplines.
  • Foster architecture communities of practice that promote reusable standards, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic leadership on complex technology initiatives while helping teams simplify architecture and accelerate business outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including significant experience in enterprise architecture or architecture leadership.
• Extensive experience within the Property & Casualty insurance industry.
• Strong understanding of policy administration, claims, billing, underwriting, customer experience, data, and enterprise business capabilities.
• Experience with modern core insurance platforms such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, Insurity, or comparable enterprise solutions.
• Proven experience leading enterprise modernization, cloud transformation, system integration, and large-scale technology initiatives.
• Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or complex enterprise integration efforts.
• Deep technical knowledge of cloud architecture, APIs, event-driven architecture, enterprise integration, AI/ML, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, observability, and modern software engineering practices.
• Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and balance technology decisions across business value, risk, cost, scalability, and speed.
• Strong leadership skills with experience building high-performing technical teams, establishing governance, and driving enterprise-wide architectural excellence.
