[Hiring] Estimator I / III @The MasTec Companies

Role Description

The Estimator I/III position reports to the Estimating Manager of their Service Line and is typically a discipline specialist which will support bid pursuits; however, sometimes may be asked to lead an effort depending on various considerations.

Responsibilities

• Listen to directions and suggestions from supervisors or other employees regarding safe and proper work practices.
• Be motivated and work productively.
• Read and understand company policies and procedures and other literature applicable to assigned tasks.
• Develop a complete understanding of applicable company policies and procedures and plan and execute assigned work accordingly.
• Examine/inspect office conditions and/or procedures and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures.
• Manage the work of direct report(s), inspecting their work for accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews for direct reports.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
• Identify workplace hazards and take necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize them.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
• Provide leadership, coordination, and guidance to other Estimators (I, II, & Senior I).
• Lead strategic initiatives related to company, department, or industry/market specific improvements.
• Manage available bid time to ensure accurate and timely preparation of a complete estimate.
• Function as a team player; create an environment where other groups and individuals want to work with you.
• Perform complete conceptual estimates for large, complex EPC projects from receipt of bid package through final bid review.
• Utilize ability and experience to conceptualize portions of estimate.
• Organize and detail the estimate for proper application of manhours and efficient turnover to field personnel.
• Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and ethical behavior when representing MIC’s to clients, engineers, vendors, or competitors.
• Perform entire conceptual estimates for large EPC, design build, general construction, and joint venture projects.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of all aspects of Construction Estimating and manage bid teams for large, complex projects.
• Train other employees in the estimating department.
• Master technical estimating responsibilities including site visits, scope determination, and input into estimating software.
• Understand RFQ requirements and communicate effectively with owners/engineers.
• Provide field assistance and standard coding support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience.
• 2-7 years of construction estimating experience.
• Knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, and construction management.
• Knowledge of various contract types including EPC, DB, and JV.
• Experience in contract negotiations.
• Experience working with a variety of vendors and clients.
• Experience in leading bids on a regular basis.
