[Hiring] Estimator I / III @MasTec Inc

Role Description

The Estimator I/III position reports to the Estimating Manager of their Service Line and is typically a discipline specialist which will support bid pursuits; however, sometimes may be asked to lead an effort depending on various considerations.

Responsibilities

• Listen to directions and suggestions from supervisors or other employees regarding safe and proper work practices.
• Evaluate information and implement a plan for carrying out the duties of this position.
• Be motivated and work productively.
• Read and understand company policies and procedures applicable to assigned tasks.
• Develop a complete understanding of applicable company policies and procedures.
• Examine/inspect office conditions and/or procedures to identify problems and cost-saving measures.
• Manage the work of direct report(s) and inspect their work for accuracy and compliance.
• Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews for direct reports.
• Produce quality work, meeting company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
• Identify workplace hazards and take necessary corrective action.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
• Provide leadership, coordination, and guidance to other Estimators (I, II, & Senior I).
• Lead strategic initiatives related to company, department, or industry/market specific improvements.
• Manage available bid time to ensure accurate and timely preparation of estimates.
• Function as a team player and create a collaborative environment.
• Perform complete conceptual estimates for large, complex EPC projects.
• Utilize ability and experience to conceptualize portions of estimates.
• Organize and detail estimates for clarity and efficiency.
• Maintain high standards of professionalism when representing MIC to clients, engineers, vendors, or competitors.
• Perform entire conceptual estimates for various project types.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of all aspects of Construction Estimating.
• Train other employees in the estimating department.
• Master technical estimating responsibilities including site visits, scope determination, and input into estimating software.
• Understand RFQ requirements and provide written clarifications to owner/engineer/estimators.
• Turnover bid estimates to the field.
• Master discipline-specific responsibilities including Material Take Offs and comprehension of drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience.
• 2-7 years of construction estimating experience.
• Knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, and construction management.
• Knowledge of various contract types including EPC, DB, and JV.
• Experience in contract negotiations.
• Experience in working with a variety of vendors and clients.
• Experience in leading bids on a regular basis.
