Role Description

We are looking for an experienced leader to join our pre-owned operations team as Director of Vehicle Acquisition. This role owns the strategy, systems, and performance of vehicle acquisition across all dealerships in the group. Rather than valuing individual units, you'll build and lead the team, tools, and processes that keep every store's acquisition pipeline consistent, competitive, and profitable — operating at a group-wide level, not a single-store level.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the team of Acquisition Specialists (and store-level Acquisition Managers, if applicable) across all dealership locations.
• Design and standardize acquisition processes, valuation guidelines, and appraisal turnaround standards group-wide.
• Oversee use of market data and valuation tools (e.g., KBB, vAuto, Manheim/auction data) to ensure consistent, accurate, and competitive appraisals across stores.
• Monitor acquisition KPIs (turn rate, acquisition cost, appraisal-to-purchase conversion, inventory mix) and translate data into actionable strategy.
• Partner with General Managers and Used Vehicle Directors at each store to align acquisition volume with local inventory needs and sales goals.
• Manage vendor and platform relationships supporting acquisition (CRM, valuation software, digital sourcing tools).
• Balance and transfer inventory across stores as needed to optimize turn and margin group-wide.
• Recruit, hire, and train new Acquisition Specialists as the network grows.
• Report on acquisition performance and market trends to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in automotive retail, wholesale, or vehicle acquisition, including experience overseeing multiple locations or a team.
• Prior experience managing or leading an acquisition, appraisal, or pre-owned team preferred.
• Strong knowledge of used vehicle valuation tools and market data sources.
• Proven ability to build and scale processes across multiple sites.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; comfortable partnering with store-level GMs and executive leadership.
• Data-driven approach to decision-making and performance management.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and CRM/DMS platforms.
