Role Description
The Caseworker for Muslim Students is responsible for providing dedicated support to Muslim students, assisting with issues related to the PREVENT, academic dismissals, student union matters, and other areas of concern. This role involves offering individualized guidance, advocacy, and practical assistance to ensure that Muslim students have equitable access to resources and support while maintaining their wellbeing and academic success.

PREVENT Duty Support:
- Offer confidential advice and guidance to Muslim students who may be affected by the PREVENT Duty, ensuring they understand their rights and obligations within the university’s commitment to safeguarding.
- Help students navigate any issues or concerns arising from the PREVENT strategy, including referrals and investigations.
- Provide clear and accurate information about the PREVENT Duty to students, helping them understand its implications for their studies and personal lives.

Support in Academic Dismissals:
- Assist students who are facing academic dismissal or other disciplinary actions, offering practical advice and emotional support.
- Work with academic departments to ensure that students' rights are respected throughout any disciplinary process, advocating for fair treatment and consideration of cultural sensitivities.
- Help students understand appeals processes and liaise with faculty and administrators on their behalf.

Student Union Interaction:
- Support Muslim students in engaging with the student union, ensuring they are represented and their voices are heard in university decision-making.
- Provide guidance to students on how to navigate student union policies, including organizing events, establishing societies, and resolving conflicts.
- Advocate for the specific needs of Muslim students within student union activities and university events.

Welfare and Wellbeing:
- Offer holistic support to Muslim students facing personal or academic challenges, referring them to appropriate university services such as counseling, academic tutoring, and legal aid.
- Help create and maintain a safe and inclusive environment where Muslim students feel confident and supported in their identity.

Cultural and Religious Sensitivity:
- Provide culturally aware guidance and mentorship, respecting the religious practices and needs of Muslim students, including religious holidays, prayer spaces, fasting, and dietary requirements.
- Offer training and awareness sessions for university staff and faculty on issues impacting Muslim students, including religious sensitivities and the challenges of balancing faith with academic life.
