[Hiring] Pharmacy Strategic Account Executive @Alera Group

Role Description

This role is for someone who can walk into a room as the smartest pharmacy person there and still make the client feel like the hero. You are not just managing accounts. You are shaping how employers think about their pharmacy spend, which for most of them is one of the fastest-growing line items on their P&L.

As a Pharmacy Strategic Account Executive, you will serve as the primary advisor to employer groups and Alera Group partners, helping them navigate:

• PBM contracts
• Benefit design
• Formulary strategy
• Cost management in a complex market

This is a consultative role with commercial responsibility. You need to translate clinical and actuarial complexity into decisions that make sense to:

• CFOs
• Heads of HR
• Benefits committees

You will help close deals, retain clients, and grow revenue by being genuinely useful, not by selling. The foundation of this practice is built. We have clients, credibility, and a clear value proposition. What we need now is someone who can take that and scale it.

Responsibilities

• Own a book of employer group from strategy through renewal. You are the primary point of contact and the person accountable for outcomes.
• Build and execute account plans that reflect each client's business goals, not a generic template.
• Know their plan design, their trends, their risk tolerance, and their decision-making process cold.
• Analyze pharmacy benefit data and translate it into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Lead client meetings, quarterly business reviews, and annual planning sessions with confidence and preparation.
• Identify opportunities to expand services within existing accounts and support the development of new business with broker partners.
• Monitor PBM contract performance, formulary changes, utilization trends, and regulatory developments.
• Partner with internal clinical, analytics, and operations teams to deliver solutions.
• Contribute to the growth of the practice by sharing what you learn, helping develop junior talent, and raising the floor for the whole team.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years of experience in pharmacy benefit management, PBM consulting, or a directly related field.
• Demonstrated success managing complex, senior-level client relationships with accountability for retention and growth.
• Deep knowledge of PBM contract structures, formulary design, pharmacy pricing, and cost management strategies.
• Ability to present complex clinical and financial information clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Comfort operating independently in a remote, fast-moving environment where you set your own pace.

Education

• A PharmD is strongly preferred and will differentiate your candidacy.
• Consideration for candidates with a BS in Pharmacy or a related clinical degree combined with substantial PBM or consulting experience.
• Industry designations such as Certified Consultant Pharmacist (CCP) or Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) are a plus.
• A bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is a minimum baseline for candidates without a clinical credential.
